That's true, we never get a second chance to make a first impression.

No idea what the norm is but if I’m leaving the house for practically any reason it’s khaki shorts or chino type pants and polo type shirt or long sleeve button down minimum. I never ever wear what I consider workout or sports type clothes out.

I go to the gym at 6 AM and wear my gym clothes for the rest of the day.

One of the perks of being self employed.

I cant imagine having to wear a suit or tuck a shirt in...frick that.

Could I dress better? Yes.

And I do dress ok for Friday night date nights. And jeans / casuals for days in the office. LSU gear at the gym.

But around the house I dress like my millionaire neighbor farmer: old jeans and long sleeve tshirts and a straw hat.

And always no watch or jewelry. Camo silicon wedding band.

Who cares.

Same, I only wear athletic clothing (including tennis shoes) if I'm going to the gym, playing a sport, or going for a walk around the neighborhood.

Nope. We don't even let our family know what we're worth, much less others.

Almost always underdress.

Peacock and flex all you want.
Then wonder why you got hit on the back of your head for your watch and wallet.

And I thought my manta I used to have was a weird flex.

Haute Horlogerie watches are almost always a useless flex. Only a tiny number of people recognize them. My most complimented watch is a Hamilton* and some of my exotic straps get more attention than any watch. Stingray, Hornback croc, ostrich leg etc will always garner more attention than basically any watch.

* it is an Air Race and the bright orange strap is what draws the attention anyway

No, I am poor as frick, I make money, but have none. So honestly I am not sure how I should dress, but I mostly dress like an a-hole, so maybe?

Did anyone else here know Jules Kahn in the Quarter in NOLA back a couple of decades ago? He may have been the biggest property owner there then.

He dressed down, to put it subtly most times when he walked through the Quarter checking on things.

If you have some wealth, but not a multi millionaire or billionaire... you know, where you can hire security, its really smart to advertise that you could be of value..

But then on the other hand, there are people who give off the impression they are with means but in reality, what you see is all they have.

BTW this thread seems like one I would start.. In other words, it sucks.

I dress to mask my financial success. A lot of people do that, particularly well-dressed people.

Not at that level, but I paid way over the amount that is acceptable to get a casio with silver flake sprinkled into the black lacquer to make it pop.

...sure was pretty though
