I’m a man. I’m forty. I don’t recall people doing elves on shelves when I was a kid. Therefore I have no connection with it and we don’t do it at our house, at least not yet. Are we weird? Also, how long ago did this really become prevalent? I honestly don’t know. Seems like Santa and one good night of sneaking around is enough for us.

It fricking sucks. Our kids don’t even care, and I’m pretty sure this will be the last Christmas my 7 y/o believes in Santa. But we still have to move the damn thing every night

It first came out with a book in 2005. By 2009 when everyone was starting to get on Facebook it spread. By 2012 if you didn't do Elf on the Shelf, you were the odd parent.

When kids started becoming smart asses and asking how Santa could possibly watch everybody at once to see if they were naughty or nice, we had to invent Santa's little snitch

I have a four year old and we’re not starting that shite.

She asked about once but I told her he don’t come to our house and then she never asked again.

I don’t plan on doing the elf thing. But a girl I work with (who has refused to do it too) had her daughter come home one day asking why Santa didn’t like he, and if she wouldn’t get gifts this year.. All her friends have the elf on a shelf thing. So the mom finally gave into it.

I don’t know how I would handle that. Luckily I have a few more years before mine even realize what Santa is.

I'll just tell my child that Santa is real but the elf is not.

Don’t worry, no self-respecting man will impregnate you.

We do and I wish we never started it. It's cute for a minute...but then it becomes a burden. And it's weird to always say "the elf is watching you"... isn't it supposed to be that Santa is watching you?

Considering the fertility issues I've been struggling with the past 3 years. Issues that are causing me to have to have surgery this week.

Yeah that was rude of him. Just acknowledging that I support your foul language thrown in his direction.

Hopefully you get preggo soon

Starting to get the idea she’s starting to figure it out. I was 8 when I figured it out but I kept my trap shut for a couple more years

I hope you can get over the heavy burden of taking 30 seconds to move a stuffed toy every night. LOL

Boy's 11, no elf this year. Moving that thing sucked.
