You’re arguing a completely different point than what I was referring to

Better question is if you have a friend that is a doctor - what do you refer to them as in their office when speaking with the staff?

When speaking with their staff I’ll refer to the doctor as Dr, but when talking to my friend I will just call them their first name.

Now, my wife is a Dr. and I just refer to her as her first name when speaking to her office staff.

Typically, because it reinforces authority, structure, and respect in the classroom. If your child hears you calling their teacher "Sarah," it blurs the professional boundary and makes it harder for the teacher to maintain a structured environment at school.

IMO, start formal. It is always easier to start with "Mrs. Smith" and have the teacher say, "Oh, please call me Sarah," than it is to start with "Sarah" and accidentally make the teacher feel disrespected.

Na…….these days I thought the students address the teachers as “bitch”.

This.

Scruffy calls pretty much calls everyone who isn’t a child “sir” or “ma’am” out of respect when he first meets them.

If the daughter is around, parents are “Mr.” or “Mrs.”

What the actual frick, OP?

Interesting fact: He was born in Durant, MS, but he and his mother moved to Memphis when he was one day old.

but I cant bring myself to put a Mrs. in front of a name especially when they're younger than me.

If I said, “have you done your homework for Barbara’s class yet?”…they’d look at me like I’m a lunatic.

I don’t understand how this is so hard for you to do…I refer to younger people as Ms and Mr all the time because it was how I was raised

We always did this out of respect for the system and the teacher.
But the real reason was to communicate (by example) to the children that teachers are to be respected.

I'm not sure why I do it, but that's how it's happened.

I thought this was standard operating procedure.
