I have heard it called brush hogging but we generally called it bush hogging. Also know quite a few people call it shredding. Never heard slashing.

Technically correct, but no one asks for a cotton swab, they ask for a Q-tip regardless of brand. And no one asks for an adhesive bandage.

We have always referred to it as either Bush Hogging, Mowing or Shredding.

Or if you were one of my father's long time workers with a speech impediment, he "Threaded" the field.

You are correct. Brush hogging, or underbrushing, is the term used for heavy brush and small trees.

Slashing is a new one on me but I see where they're coming from as the term slash is used for the mess left over at a log landing when a pine stand is clear cut.

Bush-hogging is generally reserved for heavy grass and weeds and maybe light brush and transplant trees about one inch diameter or so.

I'm sure areas differ a little but these are the terms I've heard used for my last 37 years running tractor bush hogs, skid steer mulchers, dozers, excavators and breaking ploughs.

“Bush hog” or, if you’re a veteran at the activity, “clip.”

Bush hogging, clipping, mowing,....never brush hogging or slashing.

I’d reckon you’ve clipped stalks (cotton stalks) before?

Bush Hog. It's literally written on the side of the thing.

Of course, this doesn't mean much if you can't read.
