Do you believe in the Fermi Paradox: The Great Filter?

It seems humans can’t evolve enough to be able to ever have interstellar space travel. Other planets that hold life would most likely have the same problems. Reason is time. It seems the odds of a catastrophic event that resets life on planets happen too frequently.
But also the chance that a life bearing planet will defy the odds is also statistically likely because of the sheer size of the universe.
I can’t make up my mind to which I believe. The universes size is beyond comprehension.
Then there is quantum physics that make everything possible. The fact that 2 cars can theoretically hit head-on but go right through each other without touching is mind blowing enough. But being theoretically possible to teleport could be a game changer in interstellar travel.
But will we have enough time to figure it all out? I can’t see it happening.

I think I do. Just can't prove it.

You need Jesus you sick pot-taking freak.

I'd love to hear an explanation for this shite

The only Fermi thing I’m concerned with is tits and arse.

The Great Filter is scary. What's frightening is the Dark Forest theory:
-All life desires to stay alive.
-There is no way to know if other lifeforms can or will destroy you if given a chance.
-Lacking assurances, the safest option for any species is to annihilate other life forms before they have a chance to do the same.
Basically eliminate all life you discover before it can eliminate you. And we've been broadcasting our location for decades.

I would ask him but I can’t find him until yard mowing season and we don’t have a Home Depot around where I live.

At the quantum level the space between the sub-atomic particles that make up matter is enormous compared to the particles themselves so theoretically the particles making up two cars could pass each other in opposite directions without the particles colliding.

Except, our broadcast have hardly covered any space even in just our own galaxy

Right, but that's besides the point.

To add to it, all matter from the human race could fit inside of a sugar cube. Atoms are like 99.999999% empty space or something like that. Can’t remember the exact article but I’ve seen it talked about many times.

Albeit the probability is very low but still exist. Just ask Schrodinger.

I enjoyed reading about The Great Filter. Makes sense.
I'll say this about space travel. It's impossible to travel through space, even if we could move at light speed. It's just too vast.
The only way for space travel to be possible for any civilization is if they develop a way to bend space-time and travel great distances instantaneously, like a worm hole, if that is even possible. Point is, we can't even comprehend the physics behind possible space travel today.

Colliding particles are not the only thing to worry about...
particles passing by each other disrupt both their electro-magnetic and gravitational fields...
thats a mess you just don't want to see...

I'm still pissed that Bill Nye said we can't live on Mars..

In 20 years of space travel (sputnik 57 - Voyager 77) we launched Voyager. It is now in interstellar space some 14 billion miles from Earth, which is farther past Pluto than the distance from the sun to Pluto. If another civilization has maybe been around for maybe only 200 years longer than us who's to say what they can/are accomplishing.

That video zooming out from inside your brain particles til you see a human, then the world, then the solar system til you see multiple galaxies has always tripped me out.
It is crazy how small we are.

it is surprising to me, that given the near infinite other potential opportunities, that not one civilisation has been able to create and distribute self-replicating probes to our solar system (that we know of anyway).
