Yeah, when I was a teenager & we went to someone's house to drink around their parents - something just felt off about it. Like we were all doing something wrong. Even if I did buy my kid some booze, no way in hell would I ever buy it for someone else's or have them come drink at my house. That's a recipe fir disaster in so many ways.

Well, if you drink too much, Yourapeeing. I know that much. Used to frequent the Pistol Bar - their motto, "drink til 10, Pistol 2".
That's enough corn for the day.
Oh well...

21 year old drinking age is one of the stupidest laws on the books.

I don’t disagree with that, but it is the law, and in the area I’m from, it is strictly enforced. Teaching your kid that it’s okay to willfully disobey a law, which could result in having a rap sheet you carry with you the rest of your life (and will if you get caught), is wading into a whole different conversation than “is it trashy?” IMO.

Again, regional cultural differences is all.

It’s tOT, these slapdicks think breathing is trashy.

The honest truth is the drinking age in Louisiana use to be 18. It was changed to 21, and not because the state cared about you, remember that.

You can still die for your country at 18. shite you can chop your dick off too and it’s celebrated.
A parent letting their 18 year old have a few drinks under their supervision shouldn’t be questioned. Seriously some of you all need to stop worrying what anyone thinks, especially the rejects who hover on the internet to judge anything and everything. Raise your own children, your way and accept the outcomes.

I would not purchase alcohol for high schoolers. Doing that is explicitly condoning a risky behavior.

I'm not anti-alcohol for adults, when it's responsible, but not a drinker and didn't have any in the home, so it was not something my daughter commonly saw. I imagine my child-rearing experience was unusual, as my daughter was mature both mentally and physically far beyond her chronologic age, and understood early to use her independent good judgment in all circumstances. While I would not buy her a drink, that did not stop others from doing so, thinking that she was older than she was..

My dad gave us tastes at 5 years old and a full beer at around 7. As early teens he'd buy us a 6 pack after working with him. I was buying cases of beer at 15 and 16 years old.

My daughter is 14 and my son is 10. When they get older they'll get a beer but I'm not buying them a case. You can serve in the military at 18 but can't DRINK, that's some BS.

Its not trashy for teens to drink a beer after a hard days work or killing a deer to celebrate.

My grandmother was German and she always gave us sips of her beer at a pretty young age. When we were around 15 we could start having our own small cup of beer that she would pour for us.

That’s bullshite.

Willfully disobeying the law is stupidity. There are levels of violations.

As far as how bad has someone committed something illegally it’s equivalent to a speeding ticket.

Suggestion for your spinoff thread. At what age did your daughter ask you to stop at the drug store and pick up her birth control pills?

Not reading this whole thread, but AT is spot on. Growing up with Italian and Irish family in Nola and Tangipahoa parish, my parents let us drink a glass of wine or so during the holidays, or a couple beers during 4th of July. A cocktail during a nice dinner with your 18-21 year old kids is ok by me. Only if, they are respectful, well mannered , bright kids.
