Some get uptight about this but have no problem with puberty blockers for their pre-teen.

If you treat alcohol like a forbidden fruit you are opening all kinds of doors for problems in the future.
Teach them moderation and take away the mystique.

In general, underage drinking is not healthy.
At family meals, perhaps wine or beer seems reasonable.
Buying them hard liquor or cases of beer is probably not the best idea.
Giving it to their friends could create legal issues.
American drinking culture is get drunk focused rather than “have a beer with pizza” or “glass of wine with dinner.”

That doesn’t explain why it’s bad parenting.
If you see no possible risk or downside I don’t know what to tell you.
But I suspect you aren’t that obtuse, you just weigh those downsides vs the upsides differently

And your point?

My 17 year old just wants to talk to his friends online, through social media, playing video games, etc. A night out drinking might do him some good.

Nice mouth mom- proving to be trash.
Several powerful, or famous people to have never drank- Joe Biden, Jennifer Hudson, Blake lively - and the next president DONALD TRUMP!!

That you are a drunk. ( Drunks usually don't make good decisions as parents)

I do not buy alcohol for them to bring elsewhere. My oldest (21) does not either.
I do not give alcohol to their friends. Simple as that. Whether or not they become alcoholics later is something we will have to wait and see. Unfortunately it’s in their genes.

Don't drink kids. You too could become senile, corrupt politicians.

We allowed our daughters to drink in high school, but had very strict rules.
What rules? When they were getting dicked down by the football team in your den, they had to promise to use condoms?
Congrats on being a “cool dad.”

I've heard of her, but otherwise have no idea who she is.

I looked her up - not a role model

I’m my kids father, not their friend. So, no, I do not allow them to drink until they’re adults.
Disclaimer: my son, who’s is 22, came home to visit this past 4th of July. I smoked ribs for the family. While I was watching my smoker, we sat out by my smoker enjoying some beers and good cigars. I have to say I’ll treasure that for the rest of my life.
