A thin, lacy slip can be wonderful in photographs, especially if your model will dance and spin around in it.

No. Slips generally come in two types. just from the waist down like a thin skirt or with two thin straps over the shoulder and material covering the upper chest on down to near the knees to be worn under regular clothing, usually a blouse/skirt of full dress.
Women today no longer wear hose/pantyhose and prefer to go bare-legged.
For some women it looks good, but for the vast majority of them hose is what made sketchy legs look decent. Far too many cottage cheese legged women out there now who don't have the hose to hide those dimples and creases.
