I like how the credit card that breaks down the % of the check starts at 18% now. It list 18, 20 and 25% as if that is the norm now.

More tips mean they can put more staff on the $2.45/hr plan.

I do $5 on anything less than $20.
In between $20-$75, it's all based on my service, but not more than $20.
$75-$100, I do $20.
Over $100, its greater than $20, but based on service.
All on whatever the subtotal says, I have 0 time to fiddlywink around with pre/post-tax.

You sir are a dumbass.
The make $3/HR and the cost structure of your meal is based on that.
I recently went to Iceland, where there is no tipping, however, they pay their servers a true working wage, which is reflected in the price of your meal.

Then stop eating at places that have servers.
A server can make or break a dining experience. Especially at nicer restaurants. Servers that are exceptional and provide a positive experience for their customers do so because they get tipped well.
Eliminate tipping, and you'll be getting the same people serving your table that work at Wal-Mart.

Same people bitching about tipping are going to be mad when restaurants are forced to pay minimum wage to their servers, their meal is 50% more expensive, and their dining experience is absolutely terrible because Bonqueesha from Wal-Mart is the best they could find for $8/hr.
Not sure if it was answered in the previous pages, but it doesn't sound like the OP has ever waited tables.

That is patently false but whatever. There are plenty of people who work in a service field and provide adequate service for a fixed amount of compensation. There are also plenty of countries where tipping is unnecessary and service at restaurants is fine.

None of this is true. I've been to many family owned restaurants/bars where the servers, bartenders, waitresses are all paid minimum wage plus tips or even WELL ABOVE minimum wage plus tips and the food/drinks are NOT 50% more expensive.
And the service is better in most cases than a 2.13/hr server or bartender just working for tips.
It helps these places be more selective in the hiring process.
