The strangest roundabout I've ever seen in in a little podunk place called Ridgedale Missouri. It's right in front of Big Cedar Lodge on Hwy 86 which is a 2 lane highway . One exit of the roundabout goes right into the driveway for Big Cedar Lodge (which belongs to the same guy who owns Bass Pro Sports for reference , MAJOR money) anyway a second exit continues you on Hwy 86 and the third exit gets you off onto a small county road that is about 300 feet long and really the only thing on that road is a convenience store/gas station.

But the weird part of the roundabout is if you take the second exit and continue on Hwy 86 the Hwy last for less than a mile and then you come to a 3 way stop were you can get onto Hwy 65 a major 4 lane highway that goes from Springfield MO to Conway AR .

Been this way about 2 years now and I can't think of one logical purpose in putting that roundabout so close to a major intersection.......

I live in Europe and can confirm that roundabouts are legit.

But at what average speed vs before? Time/distance/speed.

I can't give you exact numbers. But I can tell you this. Where there were HUGE back ups with traffic lights, even during the heaviest traffic times, there is very little wait. I can't explain it, but there's no huge back up like at a red light. Everything flows if people are just the least bit conscious.

Now there is a very small learning curve at first for people that never used them. But quickly, people figure it out, and people constantly merge in and out with much less stoppage.

Areas that were MAJOR congestion are now minor during rush hour. And outside of rush hour, you never have to wait at a light when nobody is around you. Just keep on trucking.

I don't have statistics to show it but they were posted earlier on how much they reduce traffic and accidents. With that said, Columbus has been replacing a huge amount of high traffic intersections with roundabout and it is very noticeable how much faster I can get through those intersection.

I am not sure if we have just had them around longer, but I also haven't had any issues with other drivers not knowing how to drive through them.

Roundabouts keep a constant traffic flow.

I agree but when there's a big difference in traffic volume between the main street and side street, I think a signal is better. Also I think a signal is better when there are multiple lanes. Multi-lane roundabouts are hard to design properly and not easy to navigate either. It just depends on the situation.

The worst one I've ever seen is in Slidell where Brownswitch Rd crosses Robert Blvd. Was pumping gas at the Shell and saw a lady in a Suburban drive completely through the center of it. Kept on truckin'.

Wait until y'all see divergent diamond intersections at intersections. They're awesome. But y'all will still lose your shite.

I just looked it up on Google Maps.

The lodge appears to have built the roundabout. Likely a requirement by the municipality or county to satisfy traffic counts to/from the venue. Otherwise they would have had to pay for a traffic light.

They are awesome. All over Utah.

The Pecue Ln. exit on i10 in BR is supposed to be a diverging diamond.

You're probably right on those. Especially with multiple lanes, I could see an issue. Not sure so much on volume difference between main and side, but I could see that being a problem. But one that I travel is basically that and it still works, if people slip in constantly, and the main street cars leave just a small gap in between them.

It only becomes a problem if the main street cars are driving bumper to bumper. At least that's my experience.

YES for sure. The places in Europe that have them move traffic a lot faster. But it is pretty complicated, it would be really hard to do it here because we do not learn them from birth

It would be best to start with doing A LOT more of them at smaller intersections and then slowly get to the big ones. Some of the huge 8 lane ones in places like Madrid would make some Americans throw up

I have a theory that the people who irrationally hate roundabouts are really sheeple waiting for the government to give them a green light to do something.
