Let me tell you something. You are never gonna meet a LLOTOT if you don't visit the docks.

the amount of vans

I started going there in the late 80's/early 90's as a young teen and those were some great days. Listening to music, smoking cigs and then weed, drinking beer, trying to meet girls, and showing off your car. Something about this video and when I was there compared to now has changed. Can't quite put my finer on it...

I was "Best Skipper" there one year at summer camp.

Also, someone said something about "Lake Vista NIMBYs" and that is a real phenomenon. I remember when Renaldo Turnbull built an ostentatious there and we all just about lost our minds

I brought the kids to the lakefront not too long ago

It was a good mix of people

Not something I’d do all the time but it really wasn’t something we did all that much growing up either

I can remember is high school cuisine on the lakefront on Sunday evenings when WRNO decided to put Dr Ruth on and people were blaring it out of their speakers......then switch over to some Zeppelin or Ozzy or early Metallica.

When they stopped making the Camaro and Firebird, it was a big blow to this phenomenon.

I was convinced that the production of both the Camaro and the Trans Am would have come to an end at least five years before they did if not for Chalmette.

Used to go crabbing with the grandparents off the seawall steps. We were always told not to get in the water there because the waves had eroded the land under the steps and you'd get sucked under and caught there. Gave me nightmares. Later as a teen we'd take our dates to the lakefront every weekend to "watch the submarine races."

Favorite Dr Ruth moment:

Male Caller: Hi Dr Ruth I'm (gives his full name) I have constant fantasies about having sex with other guys. I can't stop thinking about it. I never felt like this before.

Dr Ruth: Well you have probably begun to realize you are gay.

Male Caller: Oh No!

Dr Ruth: And you shouldn't give your full name on the radio broadcast.

Male Caller: NOOOOOO!!!

I’ve always thought the lakefront is a big missed opportunity for New Orleans. Seems like a great resource that the city could do something great with

The city has The Fly for this instead of the Lakefront.

There is still a lot at the Lakefront but it is controlled by State so they have too much state representation to make anything good happen out there.

The group that used to be between Seabrook and Franklin now took over the entire lakefront to the Point.

Back in the day, there was a section of the Lakefront that was called Teke Beach. But I don’t remember exactly where it was.

I walk there frequently. The amount of trash left behind is disgusting.

I also can’t stand the way they added all the barriers, bike lanes and speed bumps. Times were a lot simpler in the 80s and 90s.

Anyone else notice just how few "fatties" were captured in that video???

Mostly lean, fit young people enjoying the outdoors with friends.

Also, the amount of vans brought back memories-------the SUV's of the day back then.

The Lake Shore - Lake Vista NIMBYs pushed politicians to keep people away with limited hours, one way streets and patrols that limited any kind of fun.

I figured it was something like that. Visiting relatives in Metry in the 80's and 90's, the lakefront seemed surprisingly quiet and you only saw a few neighborhood residents walking or jogging. Not much hanging out.

In the mid to late 90s I spent many a Friday/Saturday night with a large 190 with a couple extra shots at the lake.

Until a few years ago we would go hang out on nice weather days or just to go bring the kids to fish a little.
I used to jog out there and still ride bikes there.

Sunday later afternoon into the evening was the only time that I noticed the trashy groups show up and ruin the atmosphere.
