Non N95 masks don't work. This crap about I am protecting you not me with a paper mask on is the biggest load of bs since it was first spoken.

the basic logic that masks reduce the spread of water droplets/vapor that carry the virus

This logic doesn't hold up.

Every single person in Japan is wearing a mask and has been wearing a mask since covid broke out.

Not they are seeing a pretty significant spike in cases.

And it's not because they aren't wearing masks...

So either it does curb spread or doesn't. Objectively we are seeing it's failing to do so in a country that literally has a universal mask mandate.

The US spike reported ~73,500 new cases on Friday alone. The OP's number for Japan's spike was 4,654 for the entire week (~650/day).

If a spike to about 650 cases in a day is newsworthy for a population of about 130mil, seems like Japan is doing something right.

Japan has like 120 million people. That number is pretty low considering.

because they are opening back up and people are increasingly exposed to others

once again...no one has claimed masks are 100% effective

objectively we have no idea what their spread would be without masks

but I can apply basic logic and plenty of studies that show the effectiveness of masks limiting the spread to some degree

And I've seen some nasty arse masks walking around my area. Those flimsy white/blue paper shite no thick than a Kleenex people are wearing for days/weeks on end and throw up on their dashboards when they get in the car are hilarious. They are probably infested with germs and bacteria.

Basically, sheltering frail people. And no huge events.

Getting the herd strong.
Based on OP's numbers, Japan's 7-day average is 664 cases in a population over 127 million.

These geniuses can compute statistics based on population sizes easily when it comes to racial disparity in crime but when it comes to mask wearing math is suddenly too hard for them.

Again, Japan has less than 1,000 deaths total. Obviously they are doing something right that we are not. Using Japan as an example that masks don't work is part of the overall stupidity that puts us in the situation we are currently in.

What if the only thing they're doing right is "genetic" and/or close proximity to China, the presumed progenitor of these recent coronaviruses?

Yep, we've had an endless wave of every type of flu known to humankind since we have had the microbiological knowledge to identify them. /yawn

Ya, it's called not having the majority of your population being obese diabetic slobs.

I'll be honest.

If I thought the effort was worth it, I would, but I just don't think its worth the effort.

Sorry.

But if you want to prove me wrong, pull up some of the big studies on Google and show me how they are all wrong.

Hahaha. Are you afraid of what you might find out?

I'm not trying to prove you wrong, I'm wanting you to back up your claims that you can cite all these papers showing the effectiveness of masks in reducing infections.

Wait it's now about deaths?

It's been solely about positive cases as the talking point.

Not really, no, because I've read several of the studies and they all come to the same conclusion, that masks help to some degree

the degree in which they help and whether or not the social aspects are worth it is whats really up for debate

I know. And if I thought you would actually take the time to read all the studies and/or they might influence your opinion, I might, but like I said, it seems like too much effort for a predictable outcome.

Its a bitch move, I know, but such is life on the internet.

If high risk elderly on oxygen aren't sheltering at home, and they are willingly exposing themselves in public places, then why should "I" have a responsibility to protect them from my germs by wearing a mask?

Do you think that one old person you saw is proof that all vulnerable people are taking wild risks? Otherwise your rant makes no sense.
