Sure...maybe...
But have they been shown to work enough, backed up by rigorous science (i.e., science that shows they (homemade cloth masks) actually reduce infection transmission, not just the presumed mechanism of transmission), to make it a crime to not wear one?

masks help, but they don't solve the problem. nothing short of a truly great vaccine will do that
the bigger question is what is going to happen when these countries' covid-based benefits stop. it's coming in August for the UK, i believe, and then other countries will face the issue. will they borrow hundreds of billions more or will they tell people to resume normal behaviors?
if it's the latter, then everywhere will be as bad as the US has been the past 4 weeks

I wear the mask to make others in the population feel better. But when I go through Fresh Market and see an elderly, over weigh person with a portable oxygen tank and the oxygen mask OVER her paper mask while she takes forever buy her pastries and coffee I wonder what the big deal is with wearing the damn things.
If high risk elderly on oxygen aren't sheltering at home, and they are willingly exposing themselves in public places, then why should "I" have a responsibility to protect them from my germs by wearing a mask?

I don't support mandates.
But that doesn't mean I can't recognize that they will help reduce the spread to some degree.

It was supposed to allow hospitals to prepare, ventilators stockpiled, PPE stockpiled.
This was before "Flatten the Curve" became "no new infections".
There was no need to go beyond Easter.
During that time, hospitals apparently didn't do shite.
2100 hospitalizations at peak Covid , 1600 now and there are issues with beds.

I do agree that it is basic logic, but that doesn't show anything in regards to masks actually reducing transmission/infections.

There seems to be very little science being applied to how we live with this virus. All anyone has to do is look at how arbitrary the decisions were on what businesses were considered essential. It’s a joke.
