Do any of you (or your wives) own a Mercedes SUV?

Long story short, my bride is still driving a 2008 minivan which she has refused to part with until her kids are out of school. She is frugal to a fault. I always told her that I would buy her whatever she wanted when the youngest went off to college. Well, he's there, and this is the year. This will be her reward for being a great mom. I am actively shopping.
She likes the Mercedes GLE. Anyone got any good/bad experiences with this car?

My mom hated how small hers was.
Went back to an Escalade.

It's not like Benz's change all that much. That is why you get them, they last forever.

it has a really annoying engine shut off thing if you arent moving, but other than that they are fine. had one as a rental over the summer and it seemed ok.

This is probably the most first world post I'll see all week.

You can turn that feature off.

Why does this bother people? It saves you gas and doesn't affect the drive at all.
ETA: 3 downvotes? I'd love for someone to explain their hatred for this feature.

That version of GLE has been around for a long arse time. It started out as the ML and has been around long enough to have to keep up with new naming conventions.
I'd wait until 2019 or 2020 model than buy a current one. Or just get her the GLC if she likes that.

My wife had a GLK 350 when we met. That will be the last Mercedes we own. It was a decent vehicle, but one headlight going out told me all I needed to know about Mercedes engineering.

My mom had one. She liked it fine, just didn’t drive it very much.
Be sure you’re somewhat close to a dealership. My parents live in the middle of nowhere and it was more than an hour to the closest dealership for maintenance.
My dad also bitched about how much oil changes were

Cayenne is the play here. Or a Macan S.

They are nice SUVs. Nothing super special, but nice.
My wife's parents get a couple of them leased every year through the casino where they gamble, so her and her sister each have gotten a new one every year for the last three years. None of them have had any issues at all, but that is probably pretty typical of a car that has less than 10k miles on it.
