She likes the Mercedes GLE. Anyone got any good/bad experiences with this car?
It's made in Tuscaloosa.
Parents had the original Mercedes ML320 in 1998 or so (which eventually became the GLE) Seemed like every time we used it, something else went wrong. We called it the Tuscaloosa Special because it broke so much.
They have updated since then probably 3 or 4 times. I'm sure it's a fine vehicle now and I'd certainly consider it. They are updating it next year I think.

My wife had a GLK and traded it in for a GLE. She really didn’t like it. Aside from being smaller than it looks there were other things. She didn’t like the tires, too bouncy and PITA to maintain. They always needed something and were replaced often.

Basically everything on the car costs a lot. I loved my Mercedes but have a 2019 Tahoe on order because of size and maintenance.
Volvo XC90 is awesome, but they also have some higher maintenance costs.
Still much cheaper to maintain than a Mercedes, but also much more expensive than a Tahoe.

My wife drives the GLE 43 AMG. She likes it. It runs great, very fast, looks awesome (in my opinion).

She wants to impress people, not be thought of as the “one who looks like a woman in the lesbian relationship”.

Cayenne is great but is probably 20k more expensive similarly equipped. The Macan S is much smaller, even smaller than the GLC. If I were to buy a midsized luxury SUV it would probably be the Audi Q7. New BMW X5 is coming out and getting good reviews as well. Can't go wrong with mercedes but that model is pretty long in the tooth, new model is coming out in 2020
This man knows what he’s talking about. Do not buy a GLE right now. Q7 and x5 are better buys. All new gle will be here this time next year.

Q7 has a low roofline, and with the length, it makes it seem like a limo

Yes
GLE
Got a deal as I bought 4 sprinter vans for work.
Likes it over Range Rover and few trips to the shop so far knock on wood, rub budas tummy, carry lucky rabbits foot.

Gle and x5 look like more traditional suv, whereas Q7 has that crossover look.
Q7 is actually bigger than x5 and gle.

Isn’t the GLE an X3 and Q5 competitor?

First Gen looked too much like a minivan without the sliding door. Second Gen is more angular, but only slightly better

The first gen q7 interiors are such crap.
It's crazy how rapidly car interiors are progressing. A 2016 q7 interior looks incredibly dated.
Porsche also took forever to update the cayenne interior. The 2019s got a major update and look great, but prior to that they were rocking the same interior from 2010.

Wait what? Your parents get a couple cars given to them by a casino? Holy frick how much are they gambling?

My wife's parents. They gamble a lot.
They bought the vehicle, its just a matter of semantics.

No, the glc is the direct competitor of those cars.
GLE is kind of in its own class. It’s a midsize suv like a Q7, x5, xc90, mdx, etc. but it’s exclusively 2 rows. Even the x5 has an optional third row (although most people say it’s worthless).

Mine has a Lexus hybrid SUV and she loves it
Posted on 12/17/18 at 8:13 pm to Slippy
Shitbag, gets an SUV for a tiny single driver. Get her a car she may be able to park. Get her one of those mini Cooper/Fiats or similar.

It's a step up but the BMW X7 looks like a big time winner. Impressive.

Once the newness wears off you’ll realize thjs is just a meaningless status symbol and doesn’t bring you anymore happiness than the van.
Posted on 12/17/18 at 9:44 pm to Slippy
My wife had the GLK or one of the boxy, smaller SUV’s. She liked it ok, but went back to the Yukon XL after 2-3 years and wont drive anything else.

Mercedes' latest body updates (2016-2019) suck. I kept waiting for them to grow on me, but they suck. Way too round and look more deserving of a VW badge than the Mercedes badge.
Lexus and BMW are currently the best across the board in design for that class. The current Lexus IS250 is the best looking entry level luxury car in modern history
