I have to agree with you but my reasons are different. at 6'7" that ride is uncomfortable as all get out, but damn near every ride in the Magic Kingdom is.

The article says it opened in 1992 but I’m pretty sure I rode it as a kid on 2-3 different trips in the mid 80s, so who’s crazy here?

EXACTLY!!! But, in today's pussified society, if one person is offended, then it is apparently not allowed.
Wrong. If 1 victim class person is offended, and the "offense" is popular among the left, then it is "not allowed".
Reminds me of the school in Utah that had to nix their Christmas celebration because one Jewish Lawyer in town was offended.

Ever notice how everything leftists set their sights on immediately goes to shite? They create nothing. They improve nothing. All they do is destroy and pervert what is already made.
That's the goal. Ever notice how the left migrated from "equality" to "equity"? Equity isn't equality. Equity is tyranny. Equity is making sure everyone is on the same level. And what level are most leftists on? MISERY. They want all of your things that make you happy, taken away. Your job, your family, your rights. They want everyone to be on the exact same playing field via a Great Reset. Then, they think, they will finally be able to get ahead. What they haven't figured out yet, is that successful people will always be successful. And miserable people will always be miserable.
Democrats = Liberalism = Progressivism = Leftism = socialism = communism = marxism.
They are simply a couple steps away from each other. But the end goal is to ensure those that have, regardless of how they attained it, has it removed.
I mean, have you ever met a genuinely joyful leftist? They don't exist. Their family lives are in shambles. They blame EVERYONE for their own frick ups, and demand YOU pay for it. They are stuck in menial jobs, most likely service industry, and are in those jobs way too long for their age. They look at religion and faith with disdain because they can't comprehend giving to something other than themselves. The same reason they see children as nothing more than a disease. Ironically, they also can't connect that they, themselves, are part of a cult. A cult of obedience to federal authority. They demand private taxpayers be taxed more, but reject the notion that government be held accountable.
They are a rot on society. They demand censorship of speech they don't like, and they see nothing wrong with it. They demand fines/imprisonment for the removal of censorship. They use violence to suppress their actions, and think by naming themselves "ANTIFA" that that, somehow, means they can't be called out as the violent fascists they are. They believe 20 something idiots with legit mental illness should shape public policy. They demand you call them zhers/zhees/clownself/sheepself/catself and if you don't accept it, they want you disciplined. If you dare bring up their obvious mental illness, they attack.
They are told what to do by politicians, media, and big corporations, and when you expose it, they attack again.
Leftism is a cancer.

Well frick me. Uncle Remus was only fricking 42?! I’m 43. I’m gonna go lie down for a minute.

Sing zip a dee doo dah. It’ll cheer you up. It’s even ok to sing around black people. Just not liberal white people.

Sure am going to miss it and it's not just this attraction that these sort of changes that bothers me.
Maelstrom in Epcot going to Frozen. Great Movie Ride to Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. Years of rumored retheming of Figment to another IP, etc.
Splash was probably my favorite ride. It's long, has some level of thrill, classic dark ride animatronics and a pretty large capacity so the standby lines moves pretty fast (as opposed to something like Peter Pan).
I am sure I will like the attraction once the retheming done in the same manner as I still like Frozen Ever After but I miss days of original imagineering with new concepts not directly tied to IPs owned or created by disney in movies.

The whole ride is about Uncle Remus fairy tales with animals as the lead characters.
And shutting down the entire ride is just dumb. It wouldn't be difficult to repurpose it

If you polled everyone getting off the ride, 95% of people would have no idea it was based on Song of the South.
If you polled 95% of the people who watched Song of the South without providing them any context prior, they wouldn't find it racist.

Most kids remember Splash Mountain for the slide drop at the end, not the Brer Rabbit theme.
