That's just not true. The resale market is huge and contracts go fast.

I don’t deal with the logistics. I know the rooms we had at Aulani for 8 of us for a week would have been nearly $15k in cash and the points made sense to use them. My parents bought in so they could take their grandkids to Disney whenever they wanted. My boys have been to Florida, California and Hawaii at least twice each thanks to my parents buying DVC.

We've been to Disney 8 times in the last 17 years. We stay at Polynesian, Contemporary tower, or Wilderness Lodge, but always go during one of the value seasons. I've spent a good chunk of change on hotel rooms there, and have wondered if I had been better off going the DVC route 17 years ago. The answer for me is no. The only way that I see it being worth it is if you go every year, would normally stay at a deluxe class hotel there, and your party numbers would require more than one hotel room.

We to Disney a few years ago and we were in line with a guy that was the vacation club. He and his family go there at least 4 times a year. It might be worth it if you’re going that often but definitely not if you go once a year or every 2 years

Got a sales pitch on the cruise I was on last week. It seemed to good to be true.

$195 per point for 150 points a year.
150 points a year is a $29k entry fee.

What’s the catch

If you are a disney fan, regardless of kids or not and plan to take a trip at least every other year then it's worth it.

We bought in before our first son and used it and use it more now. We are currently heading to Disneyland California.

Disney also has connections with other timeshare resort chains so you aren't limited to only disney properties.

My wife and I enjoy going to disney on our own so we will get plenty use and well over our money worth in our lifetime.

Why lock yourself into something like this? The dues go up every year. Just rent the points from someone else. We stay at Deluxes on every trip and spend 40-50% less than if we booked through Disney.

For 29K, Mickey and Minnie better bed me, while goofy tosses my salad, every night for at least the first 10 days of our trip.

Disney will either get more competitive or re-update everything starting in 5 years. They are refinishing Epcot for the 50th anniversary. Then they are going to update as much as they can for the next 10 years while they wait to see the impact of Universals new park does to them. I would say if you are seriously considering buying in, wait until a year or two after Epic opens. Those are at least the common beliefs with GCs around town here in Orlando. Disney is a fool if that happens though. Epic is really something else if they are able to pull off what they are trying to.

Not that I’m endorsing DVC as a good idea, but it seems the majority of the ones saying it’s not worth it think that it’s only good for Disney World/Disney land.

I mean yea, they sell you on that, but does it make financial sense to spend your points like that? Everything I’ve read says it a colossal rip off to do so.
Another thing to consider not only are the main discounts for holders through Disney eroding, the perk type benefits for those buying resale are even less.

There isn’t a timeshare in the world that is worth it. You think you’re getting a good deal and they’re laughing all the way to the bank.

Well if you actually use them well, they are definitely worth it. The problem is that (made up numbers) only like 20% of people use them well, 60% use them poorly, and like 20% of people don’t use all their points every year at all. So only like 20% the points are used appropriately every year and something like 80% are a huge waste.

We dont use them that way, but for those that like variety it's an option.

As I said we will be going at least every second year, sometimes more, rarely less. For us it's worth it.

We would rather stay in the more luxury level of resort, figure out the cost of a week in the grand floridian, polynesian or any other top tier resort, then multiply it by the times you think you will go, it will pay for itself quickly if you use it.

If you plan on going every two years, yes. If not, probably not. Just depends on how much you really love your children. /S
