Theyre not downsizing. They're just sending jobs to India.

Just like amex. In a time of record profits they are cutting people to make way for AI.

Its not AI, its Americans being laid off to make way for cheap Indian visa mill labor.

The administration’s stance on AI oversight so far has been to wash their hands of it and let the industry police itself. I don’t think this administration has the right people in place to really understand what’s going on with AI. Maybe others here disagree, but I don’t think we have anyone looking out for the country’s interests right now on this subject and this is something that probably can’t afford to wait much longer. Leaving it up to our techno overlords is not a good strategy.

You’re right. We should all go today to vote for communists to save us from the big scary data centers. Sure, they’ll open the borders and allow tens of millions of illegal aliens flood the country. And when they get here they’ll give those tens of millions of illegals welfare, apartments, cell phones, etc. and that will be paid for by us. But they’ll save money by defunding the police so our cities become even worse crime-riddled shitholes. Of course they’ll raise taxes and regulations. But they’ll help gas prices by cutting oil exploration and drilling, closing refineries, and making sure no new ones are built. But at least we won’t have to worry about data centers.

Good. Because their prices are absolutely ridiculous right now. Walt would be rolling in his grave if he knew what happened to his company.

Working in a theme park is not a career. Every park they have should be staffed by college kids and retirees making $15/hr. When the 40 year old running Space Mountain is in a fricking union and they're threatening to strike over not getting $30 an hour, you have a major problem.

Also, the officers of the company make a ridiculous amount of money. The CEO makes $35m a year. The president and CCO make $27m a year. This is absurd.

Entertainment companies across the globe are about to be in some odd positions.

I guess this is what happens when you charge 10k to see a fricking cartoon character.

No comrade, it’s not absurd. It’s the market salary for the executives of a major, multinational corporation.

I guarantee you someone thinks you are ridiculously overpaid for whatever it is you do. But you don’t! And the execs at Disney don’t think they’re overpaid either.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, although I think your finger pointing is pointless and misguided, but what would you specifically suggest? Or who specifically would you recommend lead the charge?

(answer without just spewing more OMB drivel)

The new CEO has to boost earnings. The easiest way to do that is to cut jobs, sadly.

Parks are still packed.

Cheap and fast way to tie loose budget ends before the end of Q4.

They will just rehire at the beginning of Q1 for lower salaries and/or outsource to India where they can.

But, most people don’t know that Disney and Universal got raided a few ago.

There’s not a mouse over there …..it is a rat.

I built the Caribbean Beach Resort. Three Years of dealing with the most unethical, immoral collection of people ever. Turned over the project on time, then sued them for seven million and won.

The bastards called me to go Paris and bail them out. I asked…And what about my lawsuit here? Disney Employees can’t be involved in a lawsuit against the Corporation. Exactly what I thought….you are ruthless enough, you’d get me to Paris, then decide I’m no longer needed. The demands would be beyond your capability to sign me up. Thank You.

It's the market salary, sure, for now. But in a completely changing landscape - especially in entertainment... I'd think that looking inward could be a wise move. I know you're trying to get me into some kind of gotcha socialism wrap, but that's not what I'm advocating. I'm not saying the government needs to regulate it. I'm saying that in a world where people can literally make a Michael Bay level film on their cellphone in minutes, that trying to figure out a way to navigate what's coming might be wise. Paying one guy $35 million dollars when your future competition is making the next Pixar-level film with developers from Fiverr may be the kind of stuff your CEO would consider.
