I really want to try the Tonga Toast.

I had a Dole Whip once a day when I was there in January. fricking loved it.

As much as I hear about it, I STILL haven't tried it.
I did get to experience Trader Sam's at the Poly. It's a cool bar but fricking T-I-N-Y. The maximum occupancy sign says 51 for the inside. If any of you are there with a group, you need to be in line before the 4pm opening. Otherwise you'll be waiting forever. Drinks are OK, theming inside is RIDICULOUS though.

i've stayed in the bayou rooms preferred in fall 2014. A little extra but they are close to the lobby. I've stayed in the princess rooms in spring 2012. they are cool for little girls but they are across the river from the lobby. Not terrible but a little farther of a walk.

Bay Lake Tower is the way to go, but I believe you must be a DVC member to stay. Walking distance to Magic Kingdom and Monorail pickup/drop-off is super convenient

People say this all the time but when you're there in 2 weeks pay attention to the bus stops for every All-Star resort. You'll easily see what it's worth the extra money to at least stay moderate.
In two weeks I will be staying at the Polynesian. I am a dvc member and I will never stay any where other than a monorail resort at Disney world. It is too convenient not to. I was simply saying I have stayed at the port Orleans before and the all star resorts and I could not justify spending the extra money on port Orleans as compared to the all star resorts.

I think you said that was about 7 years ago though. It's MUCH different now. Like I said, pay attention to the bus stops at the different parks. The amount of people and the type of people specifically. You'll gladly tell people the extra money is worth it.

I DEFINITELY could justify the bump up in pricing not to have to deal with the clientele the All-Star Resorts pull in.

I would save the money and just stay at an all star resort. You won't be in the room that much any way.
The money you spend for a deluxe resort has very little to do with the actual room.

We've stayed there several times at the Riverside part. I've never stayed at the French quarter side but I'm sure its great too. Definitely recommended imo.

We stayed at the Polynesian last summer. Check out the concierge level which is the building by the water (not the baller level overwater huts). The actual concierge is nice since that can help out with fast pass itineries such as book extra passes. It also gives you continental breakfast and open bar (beer and wine). Considering those damn Longboard beers are $6+ in the gift shop, there was a lot of value for pool time. The back building is very quiet too whereas the main building was jammed up.
The monorail is nice, but for $10 be sure to cab it back from Epcot as the monorail line was 1hr+ long.

Though we are rarely in the rooms, the ghetto people in the Allstars are one of the reasons I'm looking for a change. Also any cheerleading competition/band competition/tour group is put in the Allstars, so you're dealing with them too. I liken the Allstar clientele to the kind of people who are in the cheap last minute hotel when you're evacuated for a hurricane.

Bingo.

We've stayed at Riverside several times. Late night in the bar with Yahoo Bob is fun for the whole family. Basically a family friendly Pat O's piano bar.

The Tonga Toast was ok, not to die for like everyone makes it out to be.

The food court area in Polynesian is a bit small, smaller than Caribean, not bad during off hours though.
They want you in the main dining room which is a really good breakfast

No doubt the clientele is of the Walmart variety. It just never bothered me that much. With that being said after staying in the dvc resorts for the past 5 years I probably could never go back to the all star resorts. Does that make me a snob? Lol.

How's the port orleans in comparison to old key west. I stayed at OKW in December and it was great. Absolutely no complaints.
But as others have said, your time in the rooms is generally pretty limited. So I didn't know if somebody who's stayed at both thought there were differences that justified one over the other.
My boys are 2 and 3 so the trip in December is the first of many in the coming yrs.

French Quarter is the smallest and at certain times of the year has its own bus system. Which means when you're leaving the park at the end of the night the line won't be as long. A pro for Old Key West is that it's a DVC resort you you have access to better items on their general store in the front because the know slot of guests have full kitchens so it's easier to make and being your own snacks into the parks.
