I mean, Warner Brothers did this with their cartoons a long time ago. I don't see the big deal.

Disney didn't even put their warning in the actual film. It is just in the description and simply says: "This program is presented as orginally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions."

If that bothers you, you need to sign off and go get some fresh air.

Exactly, getting butthurt over Disney acknowledging that society advances over decades is very low energy

Peter Pan had a warning that the film depicted characters smoking.

Disney will slowly pull things but only after getting people to sign up, and PAY, for their new service. Them getting paid and still showing racist cartoons is just their way of flinging the SJW's in the briar patch.

History has shown that their credo is Make the money, worry about the rest later.

Why do people care about Song of the South being on D+ so much?
Nostalgia and one of Disneyworld's most popular rides being based on SOTS.

You can just download it and burn it to a DVD with good enough quality if you're interested in watching it. I have it on my Plex
Most people either don't know how to find it to download or don't want to risk getting a computer virus trying to download a bootleg copy from a sketchy torrent site.

That explains why people care about SOTS -- like I said, I have it on my Plex. But that doesn't explain why people need it on D+ so badly.

Ok, then just go to eBay and buy any of the region free DVD copies available for less than $10 shipped.

People just act like SOTS is some kind of rare forbidden content. It's incredibly easy to find it no matter what your comfort level is with computers or the internet

i watch this with our one-year-old, because he loves monkeys and such, and music. We were commenting on how the jazz stuff would never fly today.

King Louis is jazz musician Louis Prima. What about that wouldn't fly or are you trying to imply?

I don't get why this is a bad thing. They are literally stating "Hey, we don't want to mess with the original, but understand the times" on stuff. Stop being thin skinned.

That’s like animaniacs.

They said so much racist and culturally insensitive stuff.

You have to order the original dvds in order to even see it anymore

I would care if they edited the content, but I don't care about this.

Could they please add Song of the South and slap one of these warnings on it?

They have been, quietly. I bet the farm that they have quietly removed scenes from old movies at the very least.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Jim crow and disappear from dumbo.

Today's virtue-signaling censors are ironically the very racists they claim to condemn, so it would surprise me none if they were uncomfortable with scatting monkeys wanting to be like (white) men.

And yes I realize Prima is white. But the performance in the movie is very soulful.

See, e.g., I Wanna be Like You: Racial Coding in Disney’s The Jungle Book

quote:

The monkeys enter the plot swinging through the Indian forest in search of Mowgli, the man cub. They swoop down from the canopy to kidnap Mowgli and take him back to their home in the ancient ruins. Before we even get to their actions, the first issue is their actual depiction. These monkeys are plainly coded as black characters in an extremely harmful way.

Did you really need to ask?

I'm just really curious but I keep reading how Disney+ is going to put Netflix out of business. Can someone explain to my why or how it would do that?
