From the side view it really looks like a foot fault but I went back and spent a litte more time looking today and if it is it is VERY minor. The "box" rotates around the disc or in this case the mini and the front edge of the box is perpendicular to the line from the basket to the disc. The basket was well off to the right of his position on the fairway so the bos rotated around and the line was much closer to where he placed his foot than you might think just looking at the footage. It MAY have been a fualt but it was just barely one if it was. Absolutely a no call 9999 out of 10000 in the pros, even more so given it has the most direct effect on a major (Worlds at that) of any foot fault call ever.
The problem is cardmates often play the I didn't see it card. Without a second, I didn't like the official (who didn't know the rule correctly).
I couldn't help but think of the fireworks that Goose had called on Nikko in a similar situation. Jomez would have gotten massive views like the Conrad throw-in.

When I was in LA I used to take people to Greenwood for their first experience. I haven't played South Park yet; it is reasonable to say it is the most Greenwood (aka beginner-friendly) course in the area now?

I know. Everyone does, but I fricking love it. It requires os many shots and you have to be able to execute them, and I love tunnel shots.
My favorite hole is the one most people hate (other than old #2). I get giddy just thinking about #2 (old #3). High forehand stall shot to get through the tunnel, then fades hard to the right at the end of the tunnel. Do it right, and you are looking at a circle 1 put. Do it wrong and you are fighting through the woods for bogey, or you are long and looking just to get up and down.

Watch the actual replay. Rainers was trying to slide himself to the left to be able to throw around the tree in front of him. He did in fact gain an advantage, but he overdid it a bit and Gossage called it. Was Gossage trying to help his MVP teammate? Maybe, but it was not a rando call.
Also, people have posted a replay of Rainers holding a branch in front of him with his left hand as he threw. That's just straight-up illegal and not a rando, unintentional stance error.

Absolutely; however, you have to take into account the foot box turns clockwise, so it actually allows the foot to be forward and left of the mini. This is what makes it look like a clear foot fault from the side.
I'm horrible at this but I will try to demonstrate
The left side is the fake scenario you brain tends to see. The black circle is the mini, the black box is the foot box (none of this is to scale!) the red line is the vector he was throwing , the orange circle is the fake basket along that vector that if it was the actual basket would put the foot box where I placed it. The green circle is the actual basket.
On the right is the actual scenario. Despite him throwing at roughly 45* to the left the black line is the line to the basket that determines the foot box. So the footbox is rotated clockwise around the mini to be perpendicular to the line from the mini to the basket. This places part of the footbox to the left side of the mini. That corner of the box is where his foot fell.
His foot being left of the mini is not the issue. His foot appearing forward of the mini is the issue. With the box rotating around to stay perpendicular to the line to the basket makes it clear his foot could be forward of the mini from a side angle and still be legal. There is literally no person on earth that can say one way or another if and by how much it is out of the box. You would literally have to have placed a foot box sized piece of something on the ground before the mini was moved shot a laser to the basket to orient it correctly and then overlay that with the still of his foot fall. It is literally that close.
I have never seen any foot fault called that was this close in any pro tourney video I have seen, certainly not a Worlds.

I agree with you in principal, but I watched it live and I've seen a million replays from different angles and the line to the basket was not to the right nearly enough to justify that foot position.
I've been playing this game for over 30 years and I've dreaded the whole stance situation for a long time. There really is no good fix for it. If it was called strictly every time, you wouldn't be able to get through a round. It would be like strictly calling holding in football. It would be tedious and unwatchable. Of course, the way they do call holding is sketchy as shite, so I don't want to see that either. I just don't know if there is a fix for this situation.
I just want to be happy for Silas. He was a little kid when I first met him and he showed real fortitude yesterday. The two most experienced high-pressure golfers on that card were Gossage and Ricky. They were both totally demoralized by those first 6 holes and were out of it by the end of the front nine. Silas kept coming, though, even after he blew a 13 foot putt for birdie and looked like he may have snake-bitten himself. The call was unfortunate but he didn't have anything to do with it. He still had to make a 55 footer to force the playoff where Rainers threw OB off the tee.

I've actually met with several BREC executives presenting them with data, needs, and recomendations for DG in our area. Only to receive platitudes and unread emails after the meetings.
It's a toss up which will be built first
