Why do posters here feel that it is so okay to degrade human suffering or human plight , and make jokes about it, while at the same time voicing so much sadness and anger over a dog getting shot by a cop?

More worried about a fricking dog than they are about actual people sometimes.

The internet adds a layer of unreality to everything and allows people to say stupid arse shite they would never voice publicly, much less to someone's face

You take the good, you take the bad,
You take them both and there you have
The facts of life, the facts of life.

never really thought about it, but that is the truth...

fwiw, people are typically a lot cruder here than in person because the board is semi-anonymous...also, it is a college board, which makes it pretty acceptable to act like an idiot, even if most of us aren't...

Sometimes human suffering is funny. Dog murder usually isn't funny, especially when its by a cop.

Anonymity can bring out the ugly side of people and that's a place where they're most comfortable showing it.

The Internet offers a gap of irrelevance and anonymity to posters' opinions.

Our posts mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, and that offers us the opportunity to post both honest opinions and lies.

The question is, which posts are the truth and which are lies?

Scruffy will give you one truth. He doesn't post in "pray for..." threads because anything he posts would be a complete lie.

Where do you place your opinion? Your faith in humanity or your belief that humanity is despicable?

I think the overwhelming majority of 'laughing at humans' on here, from what I've seen, comes when the humans make the choice leading to something bad happening to them.

Not the case with a happy dog getting shot for no reason, unprovoked.

And, actually, I think people on here definitely have stronger reactions to humans, when the situations are somewhat similar. If I remember correctly, the dog story had 12 pages and at the same time a story of a baby beaten to death by a parent had like 2 or 3 pages - which tells me people see the title and don't even want to read it because of the reaction they know they're going to have. Just my opinion on that one. I didn't open that thread, and that's why.

Scruffy is so deep and philosophical tonight!

OP, kids and animals are pretty defenseless. Easier to have compassion for something/someone who has little control over what happens to them then it is for adults who can/should know better and can/should make better choices (Duplantier murders and other murders excepted).
I have more compassion for the dog shot for acting like a dog, then the adult who makes stupid decisions.

Your number one example should be how people on the OT view the victims of crime. Black victim? No one cares and if they do, it's to post "dindu nuffin." White victim? OMG THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO THE POOR VICTIM AND HIS/HER FAMILY!!!!!
