re: Did your 70s/80s house have wood paneling and green shag carpeting?

My childhood home was built in 1980. We had wood paneling in living room, regular sheetrock everywhere else. Some rooms had flowery wallpaper. We had a wood fired heater in living room for a few years but my dad got rid of it and replaced it with propane because I was allergic.
We had a big 50 ft. TV antenna outside with a motor on it. Inside was a dial where you could turn it for better reception. We thought that was high tech. My dad spent almost $1k for our first VCR in like '82.
We had a shitload of woods behind the house with big creeks everywhere. Spent countless hours exploring and running around out there. It seemed like such a large expanse of untamed territory to me as a kid.
Those were good times.

Definitely the paneling. Not the carpet.

At that price in 1982, I would rather have invested in a laserdisc player.
It would still be a few years before Dolby surround sound and directors' commentaries would become a staple of laserdisc releases, but I think you could have got a decent laserdisc player in 1985 for less than $1,000.

Paneling? Yes.
Our carpet was a chocolate brown version of the carpet in the 2nd picture.

Hell yeah it did
I wish I could find some to retro out my studio. Well the wood paneling sheets at least. keep the shag carpet; It sucks to dig weed out of long carpet.
It was a better way of life

Yes, with intercom. I hid my shite behind the speaker panel in my room. It didn’t work anymore.

We had shag and paneling. Had chandeliers in every room with brick steps going up to the bath tub. Yes, we had a sunken den with fireplace. Classy.

Our plush wall to wall carpet was blue. The kitchen had this orange and yellow pattern linoleum that i remember staring at as a baby because it was like psychedelic or something.

In 2004 my wife and I bought a house built in the 70's. It did have the wood paneling, but it also had pea green tile laid from one end to the other. As a bonus, it also came with popcorn ceilings and Masonite siding.
Needless to say, I did a lot of work there.

The house my parents had in the 70s had wood paneling and orange shag.
That was our basement in the 70's. In the early 80's they replaced the orange shag with some brown patterned carpet. In the early 90's they painted the paneling a light color.

That cool lasted right up until I realized you had to rake shag carpet before and after vacuuming, and if company was coming over, you couldn’t walk on the carpet after you raked it until company arrived.
Yep. We had a "carpet rake" for the orange shag downstairs.
Avocado appliances with harvest gold patterned linoleum in the kitchen, and green formica countertops.
What a time to be alive.

1980s Lubbock, TX - my bedroom had multi-shaded green shag, while the other rooms had different colored shag. I think my sister's bedroom had multi-shaded pink with specks of green.
Wood paneling in the den where the pool table, fireplace, and big TV was.
I miss that house.

Go down the proverbial "rabbit hole" and look up real estate in rural Mississippi and you will find many houses going for cheap rocking this very same look.
Ceilings of 12 x 12 acoustic tiles, paneling, shag carpet, animal heads hanging on the walls and butt fugly appliance colors in the kitchen and baths.
