As a Millennial, crybaby wuss, I want to know: was this common?

Not the carpet but we had some sort of half wood paneling on some of the walls.

Paneling, yes.
Green "regular" carpet. Not shag.
Did have multicolored shag carpet of yellow/ orange combination in one bedroom and blue/ brown/ gray combination in my bedroom.

We bought a 70s ranch in 2013. It was the couples second home and they had no kids or pets. It was like a museum- paneling, linoleum, and gold flecks in the formica.

Now it is a normal remodeled house because of the 2016 flood

I do have to admit, the earth tones are rather soothing.

We had that too. Half way up the walls. Mom said it was for houses with little kids because we tore shite up.

Pink shag with mid century modern furniture but no wood panels, but many neighbors had the wood.

Yeah it was only in the main living room. All the other rooms had regular walls. The wall that separated the kitchen and the living room had some brick going on as well.
