Okay...Then how many hours are her friends working a week.

I'm just having a hard time buying the fact that your average HS kids can make their grades, play a sport, and work enough to afford a car without any help.

My daughter will turn 16 in March. She's getting my wife 2010 MDX.

Wife is getting a new car in the next month or 3.
Either a new MDX or an Audi Q7

She also has a major issue with understanding what it means to live within her means. Shes the type that is going to be spending half her income on Starbucks and going out if I dont teach her some financial responsibilty.

Sounds like she'll be a good XO or DDD. Grats.

You buy the car, but make her pay the insurance and taxes.

That's what we doing. She's already working and saving money to make annual insurance premium payment when she gets a car around March next year.

I bought my kids a good used car after graduation and paid for gas and insurance as long as they were enrolled and passing in college. I worked a lot of over time but it was worth it.

No. My pop bought my first car and paid the insurance. Playing 2 sports, then working during the off season and the summer was enough. I’m thinking my kid will more than likely be involved in school and I’ll encourage her to have a part time job as well to earn spending money.

I bought a new Tacoma a couple of months before my oldest was born. Plan on passing it down when the time is right.

You know a bunch of kids in high school that are able to succeed academically, play sports/extra curricular activities, and work enough to pay for a car?

I did I played football and track worked at Popeyes every evening and worked two jobs in the summer. My first truck was $2000. It’s not hard. My kids will have to do the same thing.

School is a lot different these days. Everyone taking 8 AP classes just to keep up. Then going to the local college to take classes as well.

Lots of parents who spoil their kids in this thread, jeez

My financial situation is far better than my parents' was when I was a kid. A car and insurance is planned for. I don't consider providing for my kids spoiling them. A car will make their lives easier, but more importantly it will make my life easier. Of course, but the time they are 16, we'll all be driving electric, automated cars that give us blow jobs and make us a dinner, so you know... They can have the fricking minivan.

Planning on buying my current almost 11 year old his 1st vehicle. Will be a standard. Absolutely 0 negotiation on that point.
Likely a Ford Ranger or Chevy S10 style small pick up.

If he's not playing JV/varsity sport(s), he will have a job & pay his own insurance + gas.

Yes, because as long as she kept a 4.0 she didnt have to work.

I started working when I was 14 and I haven't stopped yet. I didnt want that for her.

She'll be working soon enough.

Nah, I'll probably buy it for them. But, I will not be paying their insurance nor putting gas in them regularly.

To be completely honest with you, I can't name a single friend from high school that worked a payroll job during the school year. Odd jobs and babysitting occasionally, but no one that actually got a paycheck. A few of them worked over the summer, but not many.

I dont see a kid being able to afford a decent used car at 16, I bought my kids first car. 10k. She did her part by baby sitting and making hell of a bunch of good grades and got full ride to college.

She just got her first real job, her ride has 150k on it and she gets to trade it in in three months and get her something nicer. As long as the kid is doing the right things in school and being respectful, I plan on doing nice things for them.
