No time for a job between school and sports.

Maybe something part time during the summer but nothing that could come close to paying for a vehicle.

No. Each of my children will get hand me down vehicles until they are able to buy their own. They will be expected to get jobs and pay for their gas and help contribute to repairs etc.

All of mine were given free used cars by relatives. My oldest received a Kia from her Uncle. The middle received an Infiniti SUV from his grandfather and my youngest received an Acura from her aunt. It’s a Vietnamese thing ( Mrs Pimp). I handle all insurance and I pay for college 100%.

Well my kids arent playing travel ball. They have time.
Believe me.

All they did this summer outside of their chores were play video games, stay on instagram and snapchat, go swimming at their friends, and sleep til 11 or noon.

That's fine, but at 16 if they want a car they are going to have a job.

Hell, one of my daughters friends has a online business selling cakes and cupcakes and is also a cheerleader. She does some awesome cakes too.

I say they have their entire lives to work, let them enjoy being a kid

And no travel ball. Football, basketball, lacrosse, and golf

And yet tigerdroppings repeatedly posts things about Americans living outside their means, not being able to save money, living paycheck to paycheck, still living with their parents, etc.

School does not teach our children to be financially responsible, how much things really cost, how to budget, etc.

And although I can tell my children til I'm blue in the face on how to do it, until they do it on their own they will never understand.

I'd rather her learn this lesson at 16 and 17 while she lives with me and I can show her how she fricked up, rather than at 18, 19, 20.... 30.

i wish he could, but at 17 he’s struggling to find jobs.

damn insurance and workers come ruining everything.

seriously, freaking walmart won’t hire him because he can’t use a box cutter until he’s at least 18 due to insurance purposes

It is harder for kids to find jobs now, but they are still out there. I promise. I've already looked.

Application requirements vary depending on the career area you areviewing. As a minimum age requirement, you must be at least 16 years old to work at Walmart and 18 at Sam's Club.

Do I need to make sure she is responsible enough to load a dishwasher first?
Only asking because I’ve notice many don’t.

I have a 1999 CR-V I bought when he was born. He just turned 16. We will replace the mounts, suspension, and give it a coat of paint together. He will pay his insurance and gas.

Yes!

Our daughter (14) mows, does the dishes, cleans her room, and does her laundry. And then with the help of her brother (9), they clean the floors, dust, wipe down countertops, and switch up on cleaning the bathroom.

Our son cleans his bedroom, does his laundry, feeds the pets, takes out the trash, does the dishes when his sister is gone,
and then helps with floors, dusting, countertops, and the bathroom. Then holds the light for me from time to time.

guess it depends on the position.

he actually had an interview at a walmart for a stocker.
but was told he can’t use a box cutter until 18, so he really wasn’t eligible.

he’s tried several oilfield companies, machine shops, etc. looking to do damn near anything to at least get an income.
but almost all have the same reasoning that their workers comp policy requires to be 18 (some places 21).

Just google jobs for a 16 year old. You can find a list of companies that hire at that age. Or look on indeed.

There's plenty of places that still hire at 16.

Literally every fast food place does.

Why? If you can learn to deal with working with the people there, you can learn to deal with working with anyone. Lol

Nope, my current truck will go to my kid when he starts driving. I'm not starting my kid off in debt, but he will be responsible for his gas money and things like that.
