re: Did You Know Grapes Are Poison for Dogs?

Took my dog to a small dog park in nola a few years ago. There was a bag of grapes dumped on the ground. Thankfully I knew about grapes and dogs and I picked them up. Still cannot believe someone did that

Yes. How many dogs have you killed by sharing grapes?

I’d also pay any amount of money to save his life. Doesn’t mean I have to be happy with the Vet finding ways to overcharge. I only cited it as a way for others to extra careful.
What did they charge for that you found unreasonable?

Extra tests that they wanted to send to Auburn to make sure his sudden downturn wasn’t due to something else. Tests that came back negative but I had to pay for them anyway.
Again, I would drain our accounts to save our buddy’s life….but don’t charge thousands of extra dollars on a hunch when it’s pretty obvious what the problem was.

None. I don’t eat grapes. And I damn sure don’t feed dogs from the table.

I mean… yeah.
However, it cost me almost $2,000 to learn that a small amount of stevia can almost kill a dog.

Grapes and raisins are very bad. Also, if you have Sago palms in your yard, those are very dangerous to dogs as well

Sweeteners in sugarless gum too.

The more douche move here is bitching about a bill that was given to provide care for your dog when it needed and the fact that your dog was returned to you in good shape. You don’t have to be happy about it, shite I wouldn’t be. But calling it “overcharging”/“borderline criminal” vs “being happy about it” are two different things tho.
But go ahead and call it “overcharging” and “borderline criminal” when you have no idea what goes into having to handle situations where the dog could die in a particular situation when certain steps are skipped or things aren’t done.

Evidently not all dogs. When mine was young he ate grapes, watermelon, apple slices etc…. He’s over 15 years old now.

Welllll I’ll maybe backpedal a bit, as this does sound like some bullshite by the vet. Not wrong of you to question this.

Honest and curious question: does anybody feel that the financial charge of a test should be predicated on the result of the test? Diagnostics would exist, financially, if charges were only applied for positive tests. Think about the fiscal sense of this argument.

You really think that you were charged THOUSANDS of EXTRA dollars for unnecessary things? Come on, man

If you know a dog has just eaten something toxic a couple gulps of hydrogen peroxide will make it all come back up with a quickness. If you don't know how long it's been a trip to the vet is probably in order.
Did this when my lab ate a box of rat poison that was left out in a business I visited. Saved my dog's life in a Safeway parking lot for $1.49 - or at least prevented him from becoming very ill and needing a vet visit.

My current dog is likewise a goat. It’s really impressive. He eats everything and in 10 years has never had a runny stool or any other tummy issues (or frankly any health issues). Genuinely loves salads.
He’s a mutt that hasn’t shaken his dumpster diving early days. You leave anything out, and I mean anything (bell peppers, onion, grapes, avocados) and he will be doing a dog agility course to figure his way on top of the counter or table to can to get after it. He’s plucked packs of gum and throat lozenges out of guests’ partially zipped luggage. Eaten a massive thing of raw chicken defrosting in its packaging in the sink.
The avocado is the one that has given me nightmares with the pit but this dog seems to know what he’s doing.
He’s a good boy.
