Boy Scouts Camp Comer
Depending on your age, we have probably crossed paths. Comer, Cosby, Winnataska, Sequoyah (my favorite). I attended as a scout, then camp staff, then leadership. BSA Lifeguard, Order of the Arrow, Survival Challenges, Allohaquisan (sp?) etc. Our elders (heavy military / fraternity) gave us a long leash, and it was fun.
I started a couple "There aint no flies on us" food fights in mess hall at Sequoyah.

I went one time. Dead serious. It was an MDA camp for kids with muscular dystrophy. And I had to go to the MD doctor every 6 months and they used to always try to talk me into going to camp.
I was never around other kids in wheelchairs so that made me uncomfortable, but this one year I decided to go. Everyone could bring one person as a counselor or some bullshite and for some reason my sister. I was never comfortable with how people treated people in wheelchairs.. Like being overly nice and just different. I hated that shite because I was used of being treated like anyone else..
I was used to rough housing with my cousins and other kids. Get in fights, slap each other, do normal shite kids do.. But at this MDA camp, I think I was kind of rough with another kid and it was a big deal and it was all "we love each other here" and I ended up coming home early. After that I used to think only nerds went to Summer camp.

Yep. Back in the 80’s my step dad was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu. From 81-83 I went to Camp Mokuleia on the north shore of Oahu. It was for 2 weeks each year. It was pretty bad arse. The cabins were on the beach and the mountains were not a mile or 2 behind us.

No fellow Camp Abbey’ers in here. Use to love going there. fricking slushies, those dumb foam airplanes, and making stupid shite with those nylon strings. Good times walking in that shitty river.
Did a Cub Scout summer camp this past year at Skymont, will be back up there with my kid this year as well if they want to go back. Good ole Canvas tents for a week isn’t as much fun as an adult.

Posted on 1/4/22 at 3:52 pm to Billy Blanks
Nope. I did sports camps and stuff like that for a couple weeks at a time but never the overnight camps.

Yes. Every summer from 7 to 14 for four weeks followed by a two week vacation to Sea Island.

WTF? Summer camp?
I grew up in the 70s living in a 100% rural Louisiana parish. Everyday was summer camp unless there were thunderstorms. I was not allowed inside until late afternoon/early evening. Great times though!

I think I was in early elementary school - I attended a local hi school summer camp. I never played baseball, I watched the other older kids. I just don’t remember playing. Well anyway I get on base, make it second base, the inning is over. In our next half of the inning (I trot over the second base) - I honestly didn’t understand that rule - no one ever showed me how to play. Either one of the coaches or the umpire kindly explained how it worked.
Being a young little fart I appreciated this because they could have easily jumped my arse on why I ran out to second base.

You missed out on playing in carpet floored gyms.
Rugburn playing basketball is odd.
