re: Did I just ruin my new lawnmower (overfilled oil?)?

You can never have too much oil in your lawnmower. In fact, the more oil you try to put in it on your property, the better control you’ll have on your lawn.

New walk behind mowers do not have engine oil from the factory! This is done for shipping. They give you a bottle or sealed package that is the exact amount of oil. Some engine mfg have a small residue of oil from mfg and in the package could be leak out depending on how it is handled.
Unless it was a return with oil already in it the unit should not have much oil in it from the factory for shipping reasons.
Overfilled oil would just blow smoke and you would drain it until you got to the right amount of oil in the unit.
White smoke sounds like water in the gas.
An air cooled engine would not be that hot after 3 passes unles unless the 3 passes are extremely large. The muffler would start to heat up but the engine itself should not be that hot.

I was going to get the Honda but it wouldn’t fit in my car. We’re having a party tomorrow night and I wanted to get the lawn done tonight

Either stop trolling us or go get a battery powered mower or get your boyfriend to help you.

You keep showing your arse as fake MAGA. Maybe get your boyfriend to mow the lawn next time.

B&S has started measuring motor power in foot lbs. of torque instead of HP. This allows companies to put smaller, cheaper motors on implements.
Your particular motor was measured at 2600 rpm. The torque measurement provided works out to be a little more than 3.5 HP. For years, this same mower came with a 6.75 HP motor. You may be a bit underpowered for what you are trying to do.
Also, if it was a little oil burning in your cylinder, you may have fouled the plug. This would depend on how long you ran it with the smoking. You can pull the plug, clean it, and make sure the gap is correct with a feeler gauge.
I think you should return it and buy the proper tool for the job.

I run a four service centers and seriously see people like this atleast two times a week if I stop in the shops.
Best one was someone drove a mower up a tree. Went to the customers house with my service manager and he replicated it.
Solution - took the pint of Jd from his back pocket and told him to sober up.
Another one the mower would not start due to ghost. Extended warranty company asked as a favor if we would do it. No other service center wanted it. They paid us $500 up to the customers house and $500 back plus $150 tech diagnostics.
The thirty one year old lady did not know that you needed to turn the key all the way to the right with the foot on the clutch to start the unit.
Solution - tech stayed and showed her how to run the unit for 1 hr.

Why are you cutting wet grass? You’re spreading fungus all over your yard.
Not Toro’s fault.

If you think you overfilled with oil try adding a little water. The water will dilute the oil to the proper viscosity.

It’ll burn off eventually

Hopefully you didn't go way over, but I doubt that will hurt it either, since you stopped right away.
Release the oil to the right level and when the engine cools, you should be good again.

With all due respect, and in my humble opinion, the fact that people have to break down the basics of cutting grass and how to use a lawnmower for you is pretty pathetic
How long have you been growing your manbun?

No he can’t
And I seriously doubt he knows what a ‘feeler gauge’ is and/or how to use it

Baw, I got the same mower. Smoked on start up for a bit but fine now. Checked oil level and was level after dumping the whole bottle in as well. New mowers will always smoke as others have said due to assembly lube.
You likely ran the mower through grass way too tall for it to handle in one pass. Start it up and try again. If you blow it up just return it.
