Yes no offense taken. Was VERY clearly marked. Definitely put oil and gas in correct chambers

Actually, it is entirely possible. There will be some oil on the rod bearing from assembly. Probably enough to run a couple short passes without tearing it up too bad.
The other thing would be that even though it was in the box, it already had some oil in it. I’ve seen it before. He overfilled by putting the whole thing in it.
Outside chance that with 6” of fricking rain today, he bogged the damn thing down in tall grass and the “billowing of white smoke” was just a little bit of smoke from the paint burning off the exhaust and the fricking Brit doesn’t know what he was looking at.

Ok. When you say there was a lot of smoke...was it enough to kill a yard full of mosquitos, or was it like a weak vape pen?
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:33 pm to SirWinston
And did it kill abruptly, or did it kind of spit and sputter?
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:33 pm to Fratigerguy
I’m 99% certain that the problem is too much oil or burning off the protectant.
Assuming it’s the former will I be able to handle it? I’ll watch YouTube tomorrow I guess

Like a medium vape pen - not a ton. But it was only running for a minute and the silver housing was scalding hot. That scared me more than the smoke, but I’m a novice and perhaps that’s normal too?

Again, what was the “thickness” of said smoke? Did you try to start it back after it killed? Did it kill abruptly? Have you ever cut grass before? All serious questions, btw...
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:35 pm to Fratigerguy
It died pretty suddenly and completely and then the smoke
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:36 pm to SirWinston
Well, it was dark, assuming you didn’t wait 4 hours to post this. It would be red hot in low light.
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:36 pm to SirWinston
Did you smell the smoke? Seriously...
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:36 pm to SirWinston
If it was turned over or on it’s side, it will billow white smile for a little bit. Did you turn it over to check the blade?

First mistake is buying a Toro. POS

Yes, that’s next question, along with was there a big pile of grass under mower after moving it. And how tall was the grass?
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:37 pm to Fratigerguy
Thin smoke. Did not try to restart. I’ve been cutting our grass with an old Lawn Boy that came with the house for the last 6 months
Posted on 4/4/19 at 10:38 pm to SirWinston
Go out and try to restart it out of the grass. Don’t put your foot under it.
