Yes. In 8th grade my grandparents sponsored me and paid for a ring that was part of a vow to save myself until marriage. Went to a Catholic school and it was all the rage at the time. Do I need to give it back?

This thread and the hemorrhoids thread at the same time amuses me

Because there is nothing, absolutely nothing, more intimate, personal than intercourse. Further, conception is as close as humans can become 'in God's image'...to create.

I grew up Catholic, so I didn't get to witness the weird, protestant ceremonies and rings and shite, but my dad definitely had that same attitude.
He seemed positively terrified of my brothers and me getting laid. Made it really difficult for us to get a driver's license, sent us to all-male schools, etc.
I remember my little brother telling me "Dad said I'm not allowed to have sex" and having to explain to him that human rights are God-given and can't just be taken away like that.
It's probably generational. Time was, adult virginity was very uncommon and the risks really were VD and pregnancy. Nowadays, though, I think the far bigger risk (in both likelihood and severity) is raising a son who just never can seal the deal. Then you've got an incel / furry / trans / who-knows-what on your hands.

On paper it’s a great idea.
Limits std transmission
Limits single mothers
Limits emotional stress
However, the fun factor is extremely limited.

Not sure if serious
Vast majority of society’s issues with single moms and kids with no dads in their lives would completely go away if sex was taken seriously and confined to marriage. Wouldn’t eliminate them all together but they would be such a smaller percentage.
Or if people simply took preventative measures to not have unwanted pregnancies

There are big consequences associated with sex other than muh STIs and muh crotch-spawn.
Really, this is one of those unpopular examples of men and women being different. I want my sons to get laid once they hit puberty. I want my daughters to wait a lot longer.
That's what success looks like and a rubber ain't doing it.

As a Christian father of a teen girl, we talk openly with her about it being a multi-faceted double edged sword. With the right person, when both are in love, it can be a great thing - - it isn’t just a dirty sin - - like my wife and I parents taught us, but for a girl there are potentially way more downsides than upside for the girl and you are giving a piece of yourself that person and potentially carrying a piece of them with you for 18 yrs or for life (STD), so best to wait

And I was told, but disregarded. And sure enough, stuff got pretty hairy (it was the early 90s).

Yep. That was the message at mass today.

Say what you want about the unrealistic/antiquated nature of that movement, but there is no question that it has all kinds of societal benefits engrained in that message.

Honestly, at this point in life I wish I had refrained a bit more. I inflicted damage on others as well as myself. I'm speaking more of emotional baggage.

For a board that hates welfare queens and abortion, it’s interesting that we’re knocking the most tried and true method of not having unwanted babies.
I get that it’s old fashioned and a lot of people think it’s unrealistic but it’s not that hard.
