She really thinks if she keeps this charade up that she’ll get some of that federal government cheese. She don’t give a frick about business. She’s trying to protect her voting base which is the welfare queens. What a fricking disgrace.

The port is big but tourism really drives the economy because so many work in the hospitality and service industry compared to shipping.
Exactly.

The city brings in at least $20 million a year just from hotel taxes.

Consider that gone.

Sales taxes will be down significantly.

That in turn affects employment and thus taxes taken from payroll.

New Orleans is in for a very, very rough road ahead.

Won’t be any worse than Katrina.

I’m not so sure about that. Fed isn’t coming in to save the day this time. This will be financially worse for the city.

No doubt that it is, but is she capable enough to pull it off?

New Orleans is probably the most screwed location in the USA.

Vegas is in for a world of pain too, but maybe not quite as bad

I think, financially, it'll be much worse.

Completely disagree.

Katrina was an infrastructure issue. The city itself was destroyed and once that was back, the tourists were back.

This is a societal health issue.

People won’t travel to locations that pride themselves on mass gatherings for a while.

You think people will be flocking to Mardi Gras next year after it was determined that that was the reason for the mass transfer of CV?

Concerts, conferences, and events won’t be back for a while.

On top of that, NO will likely be viewed as a hotspot for a while.

Katrina destroyed structures.

Coronavirus destroyed people’s perception of health and society.

It’s an apples to oranges comparison.

Hotels, restaurants, theaters, schools, etc won’t be shiit down for years and have to be rebuilt

Half the population aren’t going to move away.

80% of the city won’t have to be rebuilt.

The city will be fine.

Given the vast amount of people that still think this is nothing because it hasn't affected wherever they are like it has Nola for example, I'm not so sure about this.

You’re underestimating how many people think this is a nothing burger.

Are people staying at home? There is a lot of fine looking pussy running down the streets from what I can see from my porch.

For Louisiana

I believe Louisiana will be lockdowned a bit longer. Our per capita is way high, and if you went out today, Walmarts parking lot was full of cars. People are doing what they do.

A lot of those were below the poverty line.

This shutdown is making that group of people much, much bigger and they aren't leaving New Orleans this time. They'll be there and continue to be an ankle weight in the deep end.

Much of which was covered by insurance. I doubt many of these businesses have pandemic insurance.

They'll be shutdown for months and WAYYYY below capacity for much longer than that. And again, they don't have insurance paying for rebuilds/loss of income/etc.

Also the whole country is feeling this, the focus won't be on New Orleans this time around.
