But I am not diametrically opposed to the idea if it is done well (which is admittedly doubtful).

Im not totally opposed either but calling it a pedestrian mall just kind of seems disingenuous as to what the bread and butter of the area is, as well as the scope & layout.

It's already pretty pedestrian friendly imo.

It is.

They should DEFINITELY eliminate being able to cross Bourbon for several blocks on say Friday night at 5pm until Sunday night at midnight or something.

Friend,

I can confirm that when a city or body makes a street walkers and wheel chairs only it greatly improves the quality of that area. Look no farther than Tulane’s McAlister Place. Its transformation from a slow car filled street to pedestrian mall marked a renaissance of that area. It is quite lovely to walk through. I have heard no complaints from anyone since the transformation either.

The continued move in city from cars to not cars is a very positive move.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Yall are over thinking this a bunch.

It likely does not mean ALL vehicles. There are places in the world that have done so but there aren't many and are small areas.

Things like service vehicles, garbage, deliveries, taxis to specific addresses, residents would all be allowed.

This is actually something FQ residents have been clamoring about for years. Residents, taxis, ubers can drive in the quarter. Delivery trucks at early morning ours only.

Who won’t be allowed?

Where are the service industry workers supposed to park?

What about the hotel guest?

Maybe while the cars aren't there they can fix the damn roads! Oh wait. That would make too much sense...

The only thing I know for sure is that this particular city implementing a no-cars plan will be an absolute shite show.

My guess is they would be allowed if there is a specific parking garaged designated for this business. If not...then not.

So who won’t be allowed to drive in the Quarter if everyone is allowed?

Like who? If residents, service industry workers, hotel guest, delivery drivers, taxies/Ubers, garbage trucks, fire, police and EMS are all allowed to drive in the Quarter, who wouldn’t be allowed? People sightseeing?

How many people are driving around sightseeing in the quarter? This is the dumbest idea I’ve even heard of.

The vast majority of everyone else in the world that make up the rest of the population.

Like 99.99999999999999999999999% of the world and 97% of the city of new orleans.

So, pretty much the Mardi Gras plan, but yeat round.

Doesn't really bother me.

Hope she fixes the Canal/Rampart intersection first since it funnels traffic right into the FQ.
