One of the wisest people I’ve ever met has said for years.... “depression, since the dawn of humanity has killed more people that all other ills combined. It may not be the final cause, but it’s very often the root cause”

I can relate, man. I’ve had a really tough year, pandemic aside. I’ve lost three of my best friends in the past 6 months. One to death, two because of a breakup. I’ve been struggling on the job because of the WFH situation. I’ve dated around only to be eventually told that I am not relationship fodder. Needless to say, I’ve been feeling pretty low lately.

It will get better for both of us - I’m confident. This year is a crazy clusterfrick of ridiculousness.

First panic attack I had,I thought it was a heart attack. Chest got real tight and it got hard to breathe. Went to the urgent care by the office and was cleared. Dr asked if I had been stressed lately and I just laughed at him.

He told me it was a panic attack and would likely cause a stroke or heart attack if I didn't do something about it. That hit me like a ton of bricks and I finally sought help.
I've tried Lexapro, xanax, Valium, pristine, wellbutren?, and a few others I can't recall. All had side effects I wasn't willing to deal with.
THC came along and life is great now.
Starting August 1st, any Dr in La can prescribe it for anything they believe it will help. My psychiatrist's practice doesn't want the liability, so she referred me to a Dr in BR that does.

Keep your head up man. Its a tough fight but you can get better. Take responsibility for your actions. Realize noone is responsible for your triggers.

You are def not alone with these issues.. Best of luck!

This is BIG.
I'd also say to take responsibility for the way you feel. It's your demon to face with honesty first. Until then, no one can help you.

Truth.

Depression does crazy things to your mind. Accepting it is a huge success. Lots of people here to talk to if you ever need it

I agree. I am not prone to depression, but even my outlook has been corrupted by the current political environment. I feel like I am witnessing first hand the slow death of everything I have cherished since childhood: knowledge, fairness, meritocracy, decency, moderation, free speech, reason, pride in country and accomplishment, democracy. All of it, swallowed by some rising tide of lunacy. It leaves me despondent and empty.

Depression will eat at your soul. The last 5 years I have had many bouts with it..... having an illness that will never go away doesn’t help.... but there is help out there.... finding support will help.... stay strong.....

I was a very happy cheerful, teenager until, The day I stepped on Da Nand airbase. The noise, stench, humid air the body bags blew me away. It began annalmost 2 year nightmare that still haunts me over 50 years.
Not counting the PTSD, lingering effects of Agent Orange, I must deal. Through Medication, Therapy and a great family I cope.
I will pray for you, and if you need help please just ask

When I feel like that, I ask myself this: What is it I’m trying really hard not to think about? Then I think about that.

Or sometimes I just go on the Poli Board and start some shite.

Both techniques work for me.

Good luck, brother. It is real, and it is scary.

Yes it is. Post-partum depression is a bitch. Sorry you are having a tough time. Hopefully you are in therapy and leaning on your wife. That is your biggest alley.

You can and you need to. I didn't talk to ANYONE about it for about 30 years. Including my parents and wife.
Go find a counselor or psychiatrist to talk to that is a stranger and impartial.
Believe me, it helps.

I don’t suffer from any sort of mental health issues, so I can’t offer sage advice. But, I can see how the current situation in the US can cause a lot of stress and anxiety, so I offer this: focus on the things that are within your control. Do your job, exercise, spend time with your wife (I HIGHLY recommend having sex) or whatever hobby you have. Just focus on what you can actively, physically control. Shove the rest aside. I’m sure it’s hard to do that, but do everything you can to focus on your day to day.

ETA: and seek therapy. I good therapist can help you talk through it.

CBD oil helps with sleep, anxiety, and depression. I would not take it in lieu of medication your doc has prescribed, just may want to add it to the mix.

Stop drinking or smoking pot. It will take a few weeks but it will improve your mental state significantly. Also, go exercise even if it is just a walk around the neighborhood.

I’m not saying this as someone who doesn’t know what you are going through. I’m just sharing what helped me get out of my depressive state.

I’m reading the post and it doesn’t seem scary.

Covid and the political climate are scary?

You’re playing video games and drinking in the back yard instead of sports?

On the surface, I see your argument. I would reiterate that Covid and the political climate are scary, but I’ve been reading less and less of the news. The reality is, how I feel will have zero impact on the nation’s climate.

As much as I enjoy a nightcap and video games, I’d rather be doing work related things or getting ready for a morning of teaching. I need that routine in my life. I look forward to winter breaks and summers, but after a certain number of days, I’m ready to get back to the grind.

Are you thinking of suicide and maybe taking your wife out with you? That would be scary.

Also, I miss the time when men didn’t use words like “emotions.”

No, certainly not.

Not sure what response you are looking for to the last sentence.

I'm with you brother. Many of us are. My mental health has really taken a nose dive as well starting with the shut downs and seemingly getting worse the longer this drags out. We'll get through it and be better for it when we prevail on the other side. God bless and take care

This thread has been an interesting read. We are told many people suffer from this daily, and often try to hide it. The amount of people who have chimed in over the last 12 hours that say they ‘feel your pain’ is impressive.
