Depression is real, and scary

I’ve started threads on here before about my battles with anxiety. I wouldn’t consider myself on the extreme end of the things, but the reality of what I deal with is still scary.

I’ve been married for exactly 2 weeks. I love my wife. Our lives with each other are great. The virus and POLI-climate remain scary. Every day is a roller coaster of emotions.

I admit to tying to much of my free time into sports. That was never a bad thing until corona hit. Nights are the worst time for me. I’ve ventured into video games, and reading. Sure, I can go out into the humid air in the backyard for some drinks. The fact remains, this tunnel is long and dark.

There are times when I feel like things are great, and I’ll be back teaching in a classroom soon. There are also times where I feel like I won’t be in a stadium watching a game until 2023 or something.

If you don’t have depression, consider yourself lucky. It’s tough to feel like you have so little control over your emotions. My wife is very much informed on what I go through. She has been all through our dating life. Still...this shite is rough.

I know I’ve given some posters on here some shite. Compared to real life, it’s all insignificant.

Hey, hang in there. I'm here at 1 a.m. due to some of the same issues and insomnia. It's a stressful time.

There was a recent thread asking about medications, so if you refer to that you will see that you are not alone. Hey, baseball is starting in a few days.

Hang in there man, this whole year is worse than a donkey's arse juice. How has it been teaching online anyway?

I have been up until about 3am each night. I don’t want to be, but such is life when you don’t have to wake up at 8am. I am working with students online for extracurricular activities, but I can set my own meeting times. I work best in the afternoon and into early evening. Come night, my emotions hit a wall. This is the worst time of my 24 hour cycle.

I’ve taken melatonin, zzquil, and a natural form of zzquil. We walk 4 miles a day and she cooks healthy for the most part. I couldn’t ask for a better wife. I just wish the demons inside would leave for good.

Not bad. I’m a music teacher. I want to earn my keep. For marching band, we work the same schedule as coaches, which means we return to work about a month before other teachers. I’ve coached basketball and golf before, so I am not against putting in the hours.

This online shite isn’t ideal, but I want to do what I can to make my kids successful now, and in their future endeavors.

While I'm lucky enough to not deal with depression daily, I think we all deal with it from time to time to some extent. Just keep the positives in your mind and try and let go of the negatives. The negatives are only there as long as you hold on to them. Once you let them go they are gone and you can move on to positives.

Only being married for 2 weeks you should still be in a very positive point in your life. If you are still having negative thoughts and depression I would recommend some counseling and possibly prescription drugs if the counselor recommends them. If they are recommended take them and don't stop taking them even if you think you feel good without your doctors consent.

I am on a light-medium dose prescription meds. They do the job. Prior to them, I bottled up anxiety. I worked in an inner city school...apparently teaching future murderers. I’ve had two former students get arrested and charged within the past 5 months. It was a difficult job from a discipline standpoint, and I started feeling light headed and dizzy every day. Long story short, they ran tests and determined it was stress and anxiety. I was surprised, but the meds work.

I haven’t seen a counselor in a couple of years. My wife will support me in any decision I make regarding counseling. She’s been as supportive as anyone could ask.

Especially for music. You can't get the sound to come out nearly as good as in person. Are you able to get any type of group playing online?

Most of the work is 1-on-1. You can host a group of students and have them play one at a time. The difference in everyone’s internet connection produces some lag, which creates a disaster for a group setting online. Also, the computer microphones aren’t always the best. Sound quality in a zoom meeting is tough to assess.

If you played any movie sound tracks you should overlay the Zoom sound into the film, yall would get a hoot from it.

I can only imagine the first time they played online and the reality of the sound quality kicked in

Though I probably can’t fathom your feelings personally, your post concerns me. I’ve not struggled with depression myself, so I apologize if this advice is misguided. You don’t owe anybody anything. At the same time, you owe it to both yourself and your new bride to be your best you. Seek professional help. This (TD) can be a great place but it can be a bad place too. Genuine advice sought here should be in combination with professional help which I hope you’re already privy to. There is value in normalcy and consistency; despite the uncertainty filling you, I think you should get your sleep schedule back on track and avoid depressants. Best of luck. Just remember, climbing a mountain starts with the first step.

It’s rough on them. I’ve got kids recording in the garage, in the bathroom, etc.
