Dentistry is legit. If you've ever had a tooth infected and dealt with throbbing pain just pulsating through your head, you definitely appreciate your dentist for fixing that shite.
What's the scam is insurance companies not treating dental care the same as medical care. Dental hygiene has a direct impact on our overall health but, for whatever reason, if you need to get work done at the dentist you end up paying hand over fist because "it doesn't fall under your medical policy".

As an oral surgeon, I have to say this is a horrible take. Most of the dentists I work with are great clinicians and upstanding guys. Most if not all of them would get up at 3:00am to see a patient of record with a true dental emergency.

I'm quiting the dentist I've been going to. I don't trust him, I feel like everytime I go to him he tries to upsell me on some procedure, or some x-rays with the special machine in the back, or some other BS. I have a friend who is an MD and I mentioned to him that I didn't trust my dentist. He said if I didn't trust a medical provider, it's time to change that provider.

Idk, Optometrist can be a scam sometimes too. The fact I am required to get screened/tested every year for the same contact “prescription” I’ve had for 15+ plus years, is a bit of a racket.
That’s fine if I have a significant eye disease or problem, but having to set an appointment just to get contacts is absurd.

You shout go to an optometrist for a prescription, not an ophthalmologist.

You are legit. Dentists don't do much worth a damn. I've had oral surgery--real surgery in a hospital and had wisdom teeth pulled and the doctor was legit.

I'm a dentist, and have been for 34 years.
I have over 200 five-star rating from legit patients. Been chosen "Best of" in my parish 4 out of the last 6 years.

Dentists are legit as well. I throw grenades. They are working and dealing with less than millimeter level precision. They are also the ones who keep you from having to come to me. It sounds like you have had a bad experience with a dentist that is skewing your perception.
