Demand for remote jobs outpacing supply

Applicants want remote jobs, but the number of postings that allow people to work from home is dwindling as companies start to call workers back to offices.
By the numbers: 50% of applications submitted on LinkedIn are for remote jobs, but just 15% of postings are advertising flexible work.
Why it matters: "The scaling back of remote-work policies is among the first and most visible signs of a changing job market," The Washington Post's Abha Bhattarai writes.
"Flexibility remains one of the top priorities for employees," says Rand Ghayad, head of economics and global labor markets at LinkedIn.
But the balance of power is starting to shift away from workers and back to employers as the labor market shows more signs of cooling down, he says.
Uh oh remote bros less goofing off

Seems like the majority of jobs have settled on hybrid as the model. I believe it is the long-term answer

Who would have thought. The guy that hates electric vehicles also hates people who work remotely.

Have heard of (young, inexperienced) applicants being very forthright and demanding in their pursuit of a job to work at home.
Frick that. You have little to no real-world experience and your engagement with senior staff IN PERSON is critical to your development and learning process. Get to the office, at least for the foreseeable, and then we'll talk accommodating a flexible schedule. So many floundered and ultimately failed in their first go at the real world during covid isolation.

remember all the talk about how remote work was going to change everything? revitalize small towns? lol

If a job can be done completely remotely, it can be done remotely across the world for a fraction of the price, most likely

I see more and more kids elect not to work while they wait for that perfect WFH job with high salary then working, building a resume/savings while they wait to find the job they really want. They think the college degree is qualification enough to get paid over 100k

That is my belief as well. All salaried personnel are hybrid or 100% on site for the
company I work for. No pure remote.

Remote work has grown significantly over the last few years. There is no denying that.

Now what might be a more viable alternative is to set up offices in cities with less expensive real estate and have workers at least part time go into these hubs to work collaboratively. Keep overhead down without completely sacrificing the office setting,

The issue with this report is that it's based off of LinkedIn postings only.
Most people that post jobs on LinkedIn are larger companies that are coming back to the office, so it somewhat makes sense.
I would be interested to see what the smaller, and less expensive, recruiting sites say regarding this.
Would still venture a guess that, overall, the remote job space is still fairly healthy.

And take 3 times of rework to do it right the first with a more skilled individual. But companies don't think this way do they?

I didn’t say it was the best choice, but the bean counters don’t look at that.

Doesn't seem sustainable given that it eliminates none of the facility costs while increasing IT costs. My 2 cents. See Twitter as an example.

granted, I'm an old man (41), but remote work makes me want to suck start a shotgun. I was begging to come back into work within three weeks during the covid stuff

I've realized I frick off just as much at home as at work.
Though I am way more likely to check on work outside of working hours on the days I work from home.
