I did not say do not release anything. For Delta, I would have said, "at this time, it is heading towards the Yucatan. After that, the whole coast of Louisiana and SE Texas should be on guard. As we get more data once it gets into the gulf and not over land, we will feel more confident in releasing a potential specific landfall location."
That's...what the cone said? I just looked, the five-day cone from the very first advisory included all of south Louisiana from the TX/LA border to extreme western Florida panhandle. Landfall could happen anywhere inside that cone.

Sweet Jesus. I feel so bad for the people in LC.

Well, I would appreciate their honesty and transparency. Also, it would not have people focused on some center line that could shift W or E by 130 miles in just two days.

Guys, there is a Cat 4 near the Yucatán and heading to the northern GOM, but we don’t know enough to give you any remote idea where it’s going. Good luck.
In an alternate universe that happened and jac1280 is complaining that the nws didn't just guess. If it shifts it shifts, but we need to have a general idea where it is going 5 days out.

Please ignore this insufferable prick.
Crap like this, along with the back and forth with PJ, ruins this thread.
TY in advance.

What about their current method is dishonest or not transparent? It’s not like they instruct people to draw a line in the center of the cone and to ignore the rest of the cone.

That's the thing, I would not put out any prediction or cone until it was much closer than when they currently put out a prediction or cone. Instead, I would simply release something like the following statement:
"At this time, we are monitoring XYZ. It is too soon to identify a center line, but all the coasts of ABC should be on guard until further notice. As it gets closer and we get more data, we will feel more confident in releasing a center track."
Thank the Good Lord above you aren't in charge of anything.

Slack, can you talk more about those models shifting east last run and why they would do that after NHC moved the cone west?
Posted on 10/8/20 at 7:46 am to msutiger
Yeah. That’s dumb. Real dumb.
Posted on 10/8/20 at 7:46 am to jac1280
There is a button on the NHC website that turns the center track line on and off. Next time, turn it off, and assume the whole cone should be on alert, since that’s literally what it means

I really think the low post posters that come in & stir shite are Chicken alters keeping threads going, especially between updates

Every single one of your posts in this thread is you bitching about NHC. How about you start putting out predictions since you can do it better.
The NHC doesn’t really even do predictions. The cone and intensity they put out is just basically an average of all the legitimate models that different institutions put out.

My man, the NHC has done this for a long time and have the best/brightest in the business. There’s a reason they didn’t invest in Vegas.........
