So anyone got an idea of as to when they'll issue the emergency alerts?

I think it’s 48 hours out for a watch and 36 hours for a warning.

I don't get the reward given the time involved either.

Entire buildings made of glass have the majority of panels survive all the time.

I would assume residential vs. commercial construction can be quite different

and a strong gust of wind can take out a window... not just flying debris

and once the wind has a way into your house... the roof may not be long to stay on it

plus water damage from all the rain that would get in even if the roof holds

If I lived anywhere boarding up could be necessary I’d have storm shutters.

I get all of this, but I also drove all through Lake Charles and recall very few, if any, windows broken on homes. This was like 3 days after the storm too.

It makes sense on paper, no doubt, but I just don't see the benefit in real life.

At least it’ll be cool at night and mild during the day afterwards. Rather be without power with those temps instead of the usual mid 90s after a hurricane

Just glad Nola escaped this. I feel bad for the folks who have to deal with this one.

Don’t jinx them. That Sally or whatever hit over here in Baldwin County was supposed to originally hit around New Orleans or a little east. Then the Mississippi Louisiana line. The Biloxi. Then Pascagoula, then Mobile, then Orange Beach. Hell before my power went out the weatherman was saying Pensacola may get it. My point is it’s too early to say 100% for sure who will take the worst of the storm.

Has anyone that has boarded their windows found that it actually did any good?

I have a few friends who have been in the construction/contractor business for 25 years and they have told me several times that unless you are right along the coast that it seems to be a waste of time.

What sort of wind damage would nola get from this current track? It is currently sitting at about a 60% chance for tropical storm force winds.

I boarded up my large picture glass window for my living room and the French doors to my back patio for Laura. I think it was the best move I made. I still have the plywood ready to go and I’m gonna put it up again. Easy to take down and better safe than sorry.

Cool find. He mentions the high school that had the roof torn off. That was NISH. I remember walking through that aftermath. The classrooms didn’t have ceilings for months after.

If this track verifies you will have lots of power outages across the metro nola area.

More significant in the west, St John, St Charles and Jefferson but certainly across Orleans as well. North shore also.

Yea. Having a limb bust a window and then having a hurricane IN your house for potential hours would suck so bad
