The wife (I think she is filming the incident) is not bad.

Delta is held in such high regards on this board for whatever ignorant reasons.

I have only flown about ten times, 8 of which were Delta and I had zero issues with them. However, it has been several years since I have flown with them.

Southwest was the worst by a large margin that I have flown and that was my only option when I went to Vegas.

United was fine when I flew them, nothing bad but nothing good. They got me there and back.

ETA: the parts in the video, the guy handled himself very well when put in that situation. I would have been drug off the plane and for good reason at that point.

Life was better when we didn't hear about every time somebody does something dumb.

Not at all defending them, but I don't think this was exactly the same as United where they needed to kick people off. The son that the ticket was originally for did not show up for the flight (because he got on an earlier flight) so in Delta's eyes, the seat is now open and able to be sold.

The blurry line is that FAA requirements vs. Delta policy are different. One says babies must be held in lap. The other says they must have a seat with a child seat. The issue, though, is that nothing was in said baby's name so the seat was essentially vacant. Dad was pissed (understandably) because he paid for the seat (since empty seat was his son's). But think of it this way: Had that been a random passenger's seat who didn't show up, would Dad have the right to put baby there? No. So in the airline's eyes, he doesn't have the right to do it when his son didn't show up either. Tickets belong to the person whose name is on them - not the person who paid for them.

EDIT: I think the rule is beyond stupid.

From what I read on Delta's website you have two options with kids 2 and under:

1) Hold them in your lap (don't have to buy ticket)
2) Put them in a child seat (have to buy ticket)

i read a kid 2 and older needs a ticket.

quote:

No Ticket Required You may travel with one1 infant in your lap without purchasing a ticket if: the infant is less than two years old, and you are at least 18 years old or the infant's legal guardian, and your travel is within the U.S.2 Ticket Required You'll need to purchase a ticket for your child when you: have a child that is age two or older.

and the flight was not overbooked.
And you can bet the house that one complaining here about the family having to follow the rules would be the first to bitch if they got a speeding ticket for going 5 MPH over the limit

Which is a fine rule I guess

No. It's not. They paid for the seat. Did Delta offer to refund them the money?

Everyone is missing the point that if the 2 year old is in a car seat in a seat they need to buy a seat for the 2 year old. If flying up they had the kid in a car seat like they said they are in the wrong because any seat with a car seat needs to be purchased whether toddler or infant . They tried to get away without buying a ticket for the 2 year old and got caught.

Well at least Delta is trying to make it up to them

LINK

quote:

"We are sorry for the unfortunate experience our customers had with Delta, and we've reached out to them to refund their travel and provide additional compensation," the airline said in a statement issued Thursday. "Delta's goal is to always work with customers in an attempt to find solutions to their travel issues. That did not happen in this case and we apologize."

Domestic airlines suck, and full fare carriers are especially bad. So Delta isn't necessarily good, it's just the top of a bad

I've only flown Delta for the last 6 years. I've got one foot off the DAL bandwagon due to the way they are devaluing their Skymiles program bit by bit over the last few years.

I guess it is FAA regulation that the name on the reservation must sit in that seat.

How can it be FAA regulation when some airlines (ex. Southwest) don't have assigned seats?

So, let me get you dumbasses...and by "you dumbasses" I mean the frickwads saying the airline was right in that the seat didn't have the babies name on it...

Let me get this straight...you are ok with this, right? So I assume you are also ok with airlines not allowing passengers to change seats when a flight is not full, since that would technically be against FAA regulations, since that person's name is not on the seat?

Frickwads, frickwads everywhere.

Delta is a bunch of Grade A shitheads, just like United. Frick these pieces of shite.

I'm a fan of this war on flight attendants - they have been far too bitchy for far too long.
