You frickers aren't first generation to lack focus and claim you can't pay attention. ADD has been around for at least 40 years. Before that, lack of focus was attributed to dyslexia. But you probably are the first whose claims are pandered to. Previous generations got the shite slapped out of them at home and got detention (at minimum) at school. This excuse is complete BS. You can't focus because you refuse to. That can be corrected like any other undesirable behavior.

quote:

Our mental health is worse than that of any previous generation;

Get over yourselves and quit believing you are the first to ever experience what you are experiencing. You may be the first to experience lockdowns, but you are not the first (nor will you be the last) to feel isolated or overwhelmed by expenses or the future. Literally every generation before you went through something similar. Only they did so without Uber, the internet, Doordash or Youtube. You would do well to read about any of the economic or political calamities that have occurred before the day of your birth. You'll realize you are no different from your predecessors in life experiences. and FYI...they all (well most of 'em) survived and moved past their fears and tribulations, living healthy and fulfilling lives.

quote:

33 per cent of US students self-report struggling with moderate to severe anxiety and 37 per cent have moderate to severe depressive symptoms. We feel isolated, overwhelmed and constantly stressed about the cost of college, life expenses and the uncertainty of our futures

self reported? Boo fricking hoo. You sound just like teenage girls from every generation before you. "Woe is me, my problems are the first and worst anyone ever had to go through". STFU and suck it up, Jan.

quote:

We prioritise self-care when we feel overwhelmed or fatigued, and we are more comfortable talking about our mental health, even though you may feel as though we are complaining or making excuses.

we called that being a pussy just a few decades ago. Before the word became verboten. And you are in fact making excuses for your piss poor performance and inability to function under the "normal" the rest of the world executes on a daily basis.

quote:

We want to be heard, and we want to feel like you care about us, that we matter and that you consider each of us as a whole person.

get it through your soft melons: no one outside of your family really gives a shite. You will not wither and die without "care" from your professors or associates. For frick sake, quit seeking approval and affirmation from everyone else. You probably aren't going to get it so you better find a way NOW to work thru that disappointment and keep on keeping on.

These harsh truths aren't told to you in an attempt to be mean. They are told to you so that you can move forward. Your expectations are not reality. Thats not the way the world works. And the sooner you figure out how to negotiate these ugly truths, the sooner you may be able to mold the reality you think you deserve.

This is why I don’t fear a revolution from the young— they don’t have the attention span for it.

Over generalizing. My kids are doing great. Don’t lump me in with an idiotic statement.

Guess what, counselor, everything will work itself out or it won’t. Me and you won’t be around to see it…

Not my problem

Somehow, we are supposed to have the willpower to ignore a text that pops up

Yes
quote:

we often opt for the simplest answer rather than thinking deeply. It’s not that we are incapable of thinking deeply, or that we are dumb; it’s that some of us were never taught how to think critically and have never had to do it

Well, how about you give it a try
quote:

Our mental health is worse than that of any previous generation

Ah, tell me more about how being told to put down your phone and pay attention in class is worse than what the pilgrims and pioneers went through, fighting in the Revolution or Civil War, the trenches of WW1, surviving the Great Depression, storming the beaches of Normandy, Iwo Jima, or Okinawa, the constant threat of Mutually Assured Destruction for decades during the Cold War, the jungles of Korea or Vietnam, or the difference between waking up on 9/11/01 and 9/12/01.
quote:

We would rather look up the information immediately rather than wait for someone to tell us because, by the time they tell us, we have moved on to something else and have maybe even forgotten our initial question. We prefer videos over written materials because we can often get the information quicker, and if instructors do not give us videos, we find our own.

This is also why we have so many "experts" on every topic, all the time, because someone found a YouTube video proportionate to their attention span and they think it's all they need to know.

I teach Fire/ EMS in a high school Public Safety CTE program. I also teach electrical apprenticeship classes. The amount of high school students and high school graduates that cannot do basic math or comprehend what they read is mind numbing. But it's somehow my fault as the teacher?

it fits about 80% of the population,

Disagree.

Some people can learn algebra in weeks, others months and some not at all.

Some people can learn fractions better at free throw line on basketball court or on a pitchers mound.

Some people just could not care any less about Shakespeare but would rather learn how to weld.

I think the education model has dulled all the student brains with its assembly line approach and paradigm of ‘this is the way it has always been done’. Kill me.

I think your 80% is grossly off, especially in backdrop of what is possible… to unlock every student’s potential. AI is going to shock the education system, and it will be great for all involved.

Technology and creativity will make more kids better and quicker and love school in so doing. I for one can’t wait.

As someone who was in high school in 1976, I find people from 2026 complaining about methods from 2016 extremely hilarious.

School has been mostly mediocre at best for a LOT longer than that but if you want to learn something you can.

damn sure wasnt me. I just retired but I hired several and worked with several of this batch in last 7-8 yrs. Had a lot of rejects in there. The great part is you usually dont have to fire them because they just quit on their own.

I will say I have two millenials that I have to atone for...

Please, tell us more about how AI will create tailored curriculums for each individual student that doesn't involve them having to learn basic math, science, or reading comprehension. Especially focus on how AI will be teaching kids

You are a retard if you think that. The next generation coming up is a bunch of pussies.

Survival of the fittest and they won’t survive. Too weak minded…

ETA: Never fear though, they’ll have ambulance chasers like SFP representing them when they frick up.

I’ve recently had my first encounter with Gen Z in the workplace with 4 new hires over the past year. To be honest they’re all hardworking and show that they want to learn.

I saw a video of reactions of younger people watching the drill sergeant introduction scene in Full Metal Jacket. It was pathetic how weak and frail their reactions showed them to be.
