Here is advice for all of you:
Once you are married the holidays is for YOUR(you, wife and kids) family first, then IF you decide to want to hang out with inlaws then go ahead, but only on your terms, not your inlaws or even your mom and dad's.
I haven't spent one holiday with my inlaws in years, but my wife and kids go hang out for a few hours. It is one of the best decisions I ever made making the holidays about us and IF I want to hang out with others or not, we'll see. No commitments.

This is the first year that I have my family living in the same state as me. My family is very flexible and willing to work out how to split the day with my husband's family. Even offered to just have a large gathering of both family's(my husband's family would just be his parents this year) and split the cooking. Nope.....his parents aren't doing anything now because they don't want a big gathering and don't want to split the day up. Instead they expect us to spend all day with them Friday. shite is gonna hit the fan when I have to explain to them that I have a ton of schoolwork that I'm gonna be doing part of the day Friday for stuff that is due that weekend.

No family here. Going to spend the next few days off fishing and playing golf and drinking beer. Call me sad and lonely. I don't give a shite.

Clear plans and boundaries established well beforehand.
Try and have one of the events at your house so you can be more in control.
I hate my inlaws and outside of the first year we had Christmas at our house, we've had no issues handling it this way

You could always go get something to eat and be fashionably late picking them up. Your reason would be you just had to have a late lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I usually just sit aside with my wife's sister's husband and drink while we wait for my wife's trashy brother and his wife to get drunk and start threatening everyone else. Makes the relatively serene time with my family during the holidays even better.
OP, just go with the flow and give no fricks. It makes life easier.

If he has to go to the airport anyway, could be a good time to hang out at the Chicken Shack for a bit. Knuckle sucking good.

And why I made a rule about doing things for me and wife first. And boy it pissed my inlaws off. My parents didn't care either way, but my inlaws were pissed at me for years for never doing the holidays like they wanted. F that. I have my own family and we dictate how we will spend them. They got over it eventually.

that always seem to screw up plans?
Plans? Aren't these made to be screwed up? Just accept that nothing will go as planned, that some people are selfish and live in their own tiny world and aren't as courteous as you would EXPECT them to be, and go with the flow. You have a right to be pissed being that the both of you took valuable time out of your schedule to accommodate them and they basically shite on that. Just let it go. Start fresh and know now that you shouldn't expect supreme courtesy from them. Enjoy the rest of the week and take pleasure in the goodness that will come from it, and acknowledge the bad then let it go.
Also, do some blow and bang your wife in whatever bed that couple will be sleeping in when no one is around. That'll make you feel better.

Well I will make an effort to get as much of my schoolwork done as possible before Friday. They will just have to accept that I'll meet up with them later. Gotta get my schoolwork done that day cause I work the rest of the weekend.
Just annoys me. They are both retired. I just want to remind my mother in law that I'm currently dealing with stress at work, a job interview, school, helping my family out, AND the holidays this week.....while they sit on their asses all day and do nothing.

You worded it wrong. You should have told them that you will be leaving at 1pm and that if they are there, they can ride.
That being said, you now know how selfish they are and that they don't give a flying rat's arse about you. Never make plans with them again.
Bro in law also earned a few knots on his head. Ground and pound him in front of the in laws. They will thank you later.

Tell them flights from NOLA to Shreveport are really cheap right now

That sounds shitty.
We usually just talk to both of our families early and establish a plan.
Luckily, our families now live with 20 miles of each other. This year we'll be going to my family's event for Thanksgiving lunch, and her's for dinner.
