I went over to ask the neighbor to cut it off but she told me she has cancer and can’t deal with this.
Is she all alone? No kids/relatives that could deal with it for her?
The cancer obviously sucks and don't be a dick, but it's not a get out of jail free card. And that's if she truly has cancer.

The part that is over your property you can cut. No permission needed. Just cut it.

The laws are very blurry on who is responsible and I’m not sure I want to sue a 75+ year old cancer person but also don’t want to fork the money myself.
Why are you thinking about lawsuits already? How hard is it to say, "hey, I am going to cut that limb since it is falling on my property."

I gave you an upvote. You in a no win situation. Offer to pay for a trim before it costs more in damages.

jeezus aitch, we're talking about trimming a tree here, not donating a kidney, call a tree service, tell them what you want done, and tell them to cut any branches greater than 1" diameter into firewood length, have a beer and watch

What a pussy. Cut the branch yourself

I don’t know her well since we bought the house sub 1 year ago. I don’t want to be super involved in her business but I also have an obligation

Thanks, yeah as another poster said: having cancer sucks and I feel for her but at the same time it doesn’t mean you can let go of all responsibilities

Just ask her can you have the piece over the fence cut so it won5 bang on your roof or house. She will probably agree with you. Get it done.

This is the truth I wanted to hear.
Wow, it must be a cherry tree.
Almost every reply telling you that shite over your property is your responsibility, but one numbskull says it’s on her. Dummy.

Yes. I noticed some people commenting just don't seem to realize how much of a pussy you are. The woman is 75 and sick. Be a man and protect your property and leave her alone.

why is this a 4page thread when the OP is obviously trolling?

This thread proves we fricked up natural selection in the human population.

Just climb up there and cut it off yourself.
I had an arborist certified buddy of mine say he uses an electric saw. The tree owner knows nothing about it until way after its over.

This isn’t a safe task for a novice. Just wait a couple hours for pics

It's threads like this where you can tell OP upvotes his own posts.

Seriously. If it crosses your property line it’s for you to do.
I have this issue also.
My neighbor is not a lady with cancer so I do get that component.
Does she maybe have a son you can talk to or a family member helping her.
The way my neighbor and I have done it is to simply split the bill because you don’t really just trim one branch.
Get three bids usually they all come in different.
She is probably stressed so go about it in the right way as a man.
There is no reason you cannot cut what crosses your line.
I know each state may be a little different.
One other thing to consider is this. Your homeowners insurance.
The main reason I did not have another option was because of my insurance company needing it done for my insurance.
Maybe you could tell her that.
In Florida she would not have to cut it but everybody needs insurance.
Do you have a homeowners policy or do you cheap out on that?
