"Dealer fees" in connection with a used-vehicle purchase

An online listing for a used vehicle states a price, but then qualifies that by saying the stated price does not include TT&L or "dealer fees." Any idea what "dealer fees" means?
Thank you.
Thank you.

This. There are certain dealers that are worse than that. You wonder why people hate car dealers and then you see this crap.
There ought to be a law that says "the price you negotiate/advertise on the web is the price the customer pays".
Also why do they have to check my credit when I pay cash for a car???

Tell them to take that bullshite off. The least they could do is just throw it in with the price of the vehicle so you can’t see it!

You can always walk away.
They can put all the fees they want. But you can negotiate the OTD price and say good bye.

max doc fee of $425 in louisiana. shitty but most dealers will charge it. some states have unlimited fees (looking at you, florida)

Never pay any add on fees, even document fees. They are all a scam and unnecessary

Extra profit
They can put as many line items abs whatever price next to them that they want. Either agree on the amount the check needs to be made out to, or walk out.

I've had them try to add a low jack car tracking system on the car. This was a significant add on that was not included in the online price. Pissed me off. I refused to pay it. Told them to take it out the car

If you step on a dealer lot without a price, you're already screwed. But we do this dance every other week.

Everything is negotiable. Don’t pay it, walk. They’ll eventually call back and get rid of it.

The fee is there so you'll negotiate away the fee and they can hold more firmly on the price.
You negotiate the price to where you want it first, then tell them to GFT on the fee.

Whatever it is, I promise it could be worse.
I am a car salesman and on Monday I saw a post in a big dealership group on FB where a guy who got a job offer asked the group’s opinion on how the store pays and does business.
For reference, it’s a Mazda dealer in Florida.
They have a $999 doc fee and a $2,800 “protection package” ON EVERY USED CAR.
Not that it isn’t all negotiable, but good Lord. Coming right out the gate with $3,800 baked in.

A local dealer notoriously displays a low price and then tacks on $2,000 to $3000 from what I read in reviews. They have a metric ton of inventory and when I look at their vehicles on auto trader, they've started adding a banner that says "no added dealer fees". I suppose their tactics have started impacting business. Sucks because when you're looking for a truck, the screen is absolutely clogged by this dealership and I haven't figured out a way to ignore their ads.

They have built them into the cost somewhere. They never remove them unless you look deeply at the invoice.

Just recently one of my sons bought a pre-owned dirt bike from a dealer that had only 2 hours run time on it. They settled on a price and at signing sprung the $399 dealer fee. Wait, what? Well, it’s applied to everything new or used at that dealer site. It was a local trade in and didn’t need any kind of prep, etc.
