Deaf man killed by police when he failed to comply with commands.

"Oklahoma City police officers who opened fire on a man in front of his home as he approached them holding a metal pipe didn't hear witnesses yelling that he was deaf, a department official said Wednesday"
Another tragedy to add to a long list of deaf people killed by police because they "failed to comply".
After a similar incident in Seattle a few years ago this was the police departments response.
"President of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, Rich Oneill said, “incidents wouldn’t happen if citizens complied with the orders of police, even if the officer was wrong.”

Deaf people aren't stupid or mentally handicapped. I don't know the specifics of the case but I believe most deaf people would have understood to put the pipe down as weapons were drawn on them.

I guess he was deaf and dumb, because only a moron would approach police officers holding a pipe. Let's be honest, the dumbass knew what the police officers were telling him to do or not to do. The gun and taser were two big clues to fricking stop.

It's being reported that the object Mr Sanchez was holding was a metal walking stick; neighbors frequently saw him with it at night because it was his defense against the stray dogs in the area.
Also, the reason why the police engaged Mr Sanchez was because a car involved in a reported hit-and-run was parked at his residence. He was not the driver involved in the accident.
Sad story all around.
