I am guessing he was fishing or something? I grew up fishing and hunting the marsh and have hit stumps (obviously we don’t have the cypress like the Tickfaw area), but he must have been running pretty close to shore or running up on shore for that to happen, or am I crazy?

Tickfaw is a big river with stumps along the banks. That boat has a nav plotter, so he never should have been close to stumps. That said, he never should have been going as fast as he was. Whether he was drunk or not, he likely deserves both counts of negligent or vehicular homicide to go with whatever other charges stick.

Sounds like what this guy in the sea fox was doing is the very definition of what has been referred to as show boating.

I wouldn't get near anyone with that mentality in a boat.

Lanoux said they found that both boats had running lights over the course of the investigation into the crash. Toxicology screenings were performed on both Sharkey and the surviving operator of the Sea Fox boat. Lanoux said it could take a couple of weeks to receive the results.

Without knowing exactly what happened, the unfortunate part of this is that at night there's really no reason to be anywhere close to another boat. There's plenty of space usually with very little boat traffic.

Sgt. Randy Lanoux said a 25-foot Sea Fox boat crashed into a 25-foot pontoon boat shortly after midnight Sunday morning. “The Sea Fox hit the pontoon boat what we consider to be mid-vessel. (For) lack of a better term, it T-boned it. The Sea Fox ramped the pontoon boat, slid back off and rolled over and it sank,” Lanoux said.

Yeah for the deceased it could take that long, but for the suspect it should be available that night

That's a horrible wreck! That Sea Fox was definitely hauling arse! I would assume that Sharkey was immediately killed from that impact. It's amazing more aren't dead from this incident.

I'm guessing the driver of the Sea Fox's name won't be released until charges are filed, which I can't imagine there won't be.

He deleted his Facebook account which was a smart idea. It was full of drinking and boating pictures.

Definitely smart to delete it considering how many photos involved beer. Hell even the picture in the woods with the nice buck he killed had to have a miller lite in hand.

they made it sound like Sharkey was headed out to help a friend yet why did he need that many people in his boat that late at night

lucky not more fatalities

will have to see if both operators were under the influence

He had already picked them up and was bring them to the camp.

My understanding is he went to pick those people up who had been drinking and needed a ride.
