I was slowly driving down a gravel farm road and a hummingbird hit my windshield and wedged under my wiper blade. I got out and picked up and poured him a cup of water and rubbed a little on his head. He licked the water, came to his senses and few off.
He was lucky he wasn’t a black bird or a damn blue jay…
Btw, I saw a blue jay attack a squirrel who was on the side of a tree, the squirrel got fed up with it and grabbed the bird and killed it. Thought that was cool.

If she is upset she did it, remind her it's not her fault. If she feels no remorse, she need therapy.

I am sorry for you and your daughter.
I have several childhood memories about pets/animals getting killed.
My mother backed over a puppy in the driveway that we had for about a month. I vividly remember her sitting next to the broken pup sobbing as the dog tried to get up and convulsed and fell back down. Next thing I know my Dad was walking up with his pistol. Us kids were hustled away and,…..Blam! Then I see my Dad walking across the yard with a shovel. I think I was about six years old but it is one of the clearest memories I have from my early childhood.
Well,…that bothered me so much telling about that one that I will tell no more of these stories.
Again, I am sorry.

Back in the day, when vehicles still had mechanical cooling fans with the metal shroud around them we'd have to bang on the hoods in the winter because our cats would sleep in that shroud next to the radiator. Come out in the morning and crank your car only to have to bury a cat. We eventually figured out they weren't running away.

What’s with all the downvotes? I love a cat as much as a dog. Y’all must have never had a cool cat

I had a male cat for 18 years, acted like a dog, fetched and everything. An attachment to an animal is a bond, dog, cat, lizard, whatever. You sound like you are fun.

Who hasn’t smashed a little puss? Is it Bad if you hit it more than once?

I ran over a cat once at a stop sign. It wasn’t mine so I didn’t care much. I wouldn’t run mine over, that’s pretty rude.

Sorry for your loss, but next cat you get, keep it inside and don't let it outside to kill wildlife. Domestic cats are estimated to be responsible for the deaths of up to 3.7 BILLION wild birds in the US alone.

Fortunately, cooling fans are often enclosed on most cars.
I’ll never forget I saw a car in traffic with a dead, bloody cat hanging out of the car’s engine compartment.
