I think this is the issue. You can’t leave it up to the animal to get out of the way. It may 99.9% of the time, but that .01 % of the time, they won’t for whatever reason.

You have my sympathies and I hope you and your daughter do feel better

Eh, I have had outdoor pets my whole life and the times that they have been closest to getting run over is always by people that stop and start or even worse roll down the window and talk to them.

Honk, Rev engine, etc. But don't stop and let them think you are done and getting out like you do the other 99% of the time.

She just said from now on she would just stop and get out and leave the car wherever and I said that was fine.

I've never run over any pet, so I'll continue my course of action.

Poor little girl. I know mine would be unbelievably sad as well. Keep giving her hugs, Dad.

Anyway, going to bed. Sucks digging a hole and putting a friend to rest. As much as a butt as he could be at times.

I’d bought a new 1977 ford f100 truck, first new vehicle and was proud of it. I came out from work and started it and it made a horrible noise under the hood. Raised the hood and hair was flying out of the fan area. WTH?

And no need in telling the rest of the story. It could be more gruesome…..

Wait wat?

I've been the crazy lady who fed all the neighborhood cats, and I've never ever lived by this.

You bend down and look under you car.

I know we are joking on here but I really feel bad for your daughter. I've got one myself. They are delicate and emotional. I hope she doesn't blame herself (even if she did it).

Yeah, women are the worst. My wife and daughter constantly try to stop and start, yell out the window at them, etc.

Guess who hasn't run over a pet yet....

Nor have I. You check under your car and/or wait to see them elsewhere.

Hey guys, no need to go there. It’s bed time. Everyone have a good night and hopefully everyone feels better in the morning

You wait with my cats and they will be sleeping on your hood.

He clearly committed suicide out of the guilt from killing that Hummingbird. Tell your daughter she's doing the Lord's work.

The only time I've seen my father cry was the day he accidentally ran over our dachshund when I was about 12. She was 18 years old, and we had a gate that led to our driveway. It wasn't an automatic gate, so you had to get out and open it up before you pulled through. I opened up the gate and dad went forward and just didn't see her lying in the driveway. She was too old to get out of the way. He went and buried her and did everything by himself and when he came back I could tell that he had been crying his eyes out.

Sorry for your loss man. People who don't have pets have no clue how difficult their death is to us. I lost my girl Lucy 2 years ago, still think of her every day.
