Anyone have any insight to share about living there? Her job would be in Edina.

Lived in Elk River and worked in downtown Minneapolis.

Loved it. Beautiful state but the winters are not for the faint of heart. I think politically it's gotten worse btu it was very much a blue state and city when I lived there it just wasn't in your face on the street level. Most of the rah rah was limited to tv and social media type ranting.

Minneapolis’ homicide increase was one of the highest in the country, more than doubling from 46 in 2019 to 93 in 2021, per Uniform Crime Reports.

Those are amatuer numbers.

You’ve been there?

Minneapolis is far nicer (cleaner, safer, wealthier) than most cities in the South

My coworker has lived their his whole life and never shuts up about how amazing Minn and Minnesota are

He’s a Democrat too

Last year he moved to Phoenix. He said it was never the same after George Floyd and he wouldn’t even go into downtown anymore because it was such a shite show. He said the last straw was he and his wife went to dinner down there and were harassed and had stuff thrown at them.

It would just depend where the job is and where she would be living

It should be getting LOTS safer then since they have defunded the police and cannot find replacements for the ones with brains who left.

Used to have family there. One takeaway: I remember them saying that during the winter, most days you never went outside. House >>> garaged car >>> heated parking garage >>> office building >>> enclosed skyways between buildings for lunch >>> office building >>> heated parking garage >>> back in the garage at home >>> house.

Visited in 2007.

Mall Of America was quite dangerous back then, now It must be can only imagine the war zone, especially the parking areas. Some jackass pulled a knife on my wife and daughter 6 feet in front of me, but ran off when I before I could settle the front sight on his chest. I called the cops and they only asked if I fired, said nope and they said have a nice day.

But Cabella's in MSP was cool...

Moved up here last year for a job. It's a nice place to live to start a career and family. Your daughter will have 10x's better opportunities than LA.

The comments in this thread are par for the course for a bunch of people who rarely get out of LA and get their opinions from news headlines.

Edina is a great place and one of the richer parts of the city. Anyone living in BR or Nola and talking about how dangerous it is here are morons

About a month ago a man ran over a Muslim at a mosque there. The MPD sheriff said he assumed it was a hate crime and the city called for all this Muslim protection BS and made it out to be a hate crime by white person. Well about a week later they found out who it was..it ended up being a black man with mental health issues but none of the news outlets posted a picture of him. You had to do some heavy digging to find that part out. That is the type of communist, beehive minded people in charge that she will have to deal with.
the alternatives are getting raped by an illegal in Texas or murdered in Louisiana

You people are nuts

She could find someone just across the river in Western Wisconsin. Turns into baw country real quick, especially if she heads a bit north.

The farthest away from Livingston Parish many of these folks ever get is Branson, Gatlinburg or 30A.

We went to MN on vacation a couple of years back. We thought it was fantastic. Moreso than political climate or a Muslim person - your daughter needs to look hard at a what the winters are like there.

And not from an average high/average low perspective - go look at a historical week in January or something. I've been to the central Midwest (IL) in the winter many times, and after a week or two it can be tough. 500-600 miles further north? I don't think I could hack it.

Awesome in the summer, and I'm sure it's gorgeous in the fall. But from what? October to April? May? Is their winter? Yikes.

I see at Tulane they failed to teach you about logical fallacies…two things can be true professor: Baton Rouge and NOLA can be locales where the natives practice tribal killings and so can the Twin Cities.

Somalians who come here are majority Moslem and bring with them their clanish loyalties. As someone who visited Somalia without a passport, I can vouch they are a loathsome peoples.

I could only do two years up in the great North. Pushed me all the way down to Texas and I haven’t looked back since.
Burbs to the west are nice but boring. If she’s just out of college then she’ll spend time in less favorable places.
Winter is no joke. Walking home alone in the cold can be more dangerous there than in any other major city and not because of crime.
I saw -20F one morning passing through. It’s not so cold you have to do things too differently. Even old HEUI diesels can start in that. That W number on motor oil actually matters there and batteries don’t last long. I would advise an hour or two of snow driving instruction. AWD will help you go but it won’t help you stop. Off road tires are the absolute worst for snow. Smaller, softer tread is where it’s at.
