a legit devout Catholic then you had better get used to particular points like this being deal breakers.
I completely understand how stringent belief can have an effect on a relationship. If you believe cleanliness equals godliness then you'll be impatient with a slob. If you believe life starts at conception, you probably won't hit it off with an abortion doc.
My point is that this particular belief has no bearing whatsoever on real life. You can believe it turns into cotton candy and live the same righteous lifestyle as someone who believes it's flesh. It's a dumb thing to get caught up on.

Get out now. If she's basically discounting your service, like it doesn't count, then she's not going to compromise. Save yourself the heartache. People who are loyal to one religion or determined not to believe at all aren't going to change.

Probably. I won't argue that. But as a Catholic it is something that they necessarily get caught up on. It is taught as a or even the central tenet of the religion. It's part of their deal.

Guess you're probably right, but it seems on an individual level, it's only as important as you want it to be.
thanks for enlightening this heathen.
But it still strikes me as the kind of petty thing that the Arabic world would be divided over. I like to think that the West is a little more forward thinking than this. But that's just my two cents.

5 years of Catholic school had to teach me something. In real life, maybe it wouldn't be that important. There are a lot of Catholic in name only types, though you don't know if they may become more devout with age.

Reading this thread reminds me just how weird Catholics are.
I'm so thankful for my Protestant upbringing.

Dump her or you'll spend 2/3rds of your life in mass.

I was born a Methodist and later converted to Catholicism.
Trust me on this. Dump the utterly meaningless and irrelevant Southern Methodist Episcopal, United Methodist, name de jour of that laughable institution.
Convert to a church that means something. Nothing will give you more peace of mind spiritually.

I'm Catholic but my wife is Episcopalian. I go to church alone. I don't go to church to be with my wife, I go to church to be with my thoughts and my own personal relationship with God. I don't ask my wife to attend with me. She has already told me that her heart isn't in it. I respect that. Religion is a personal thing. If you have the same interest, great. If not, do your own thing. I'm sure it will become an issues when raising children though. As long as they are raised Christian, do you really care?

Yes. This is normal. Nothing prevents a Catholic from going to another Christian service, but a faithful Catholic should attend Mass at least weekly. At Mass, they receive what they believe is the consecrated true Body and Blood of Christ. Nothing in a Methodist service replaces this, thus she may attend your service but won't be fulfilling her Catholic duty, whereas you may feel/be totally justified by attending any Christian service on a weekly basis (I admittedly don't know what is prescribed to you).
I don't feel like reading the rest of this thread but this is the best reply you'll get
